So I could be totally wrong here, but I’ve read stuff where the remake was meant to be much closer to the novel than just a straight up remake of the original movie. When the movie was supposed to come out in March of 2013 it was apparently supposed to be the director’s vision of the movie. This would have added an extra 45 minutes of screen time to the movie, but also apparently the movie was shot as a found footage movie with each of the main students giving an interview of what actually happened on prom night. There was evidence of this apparently when Tommy Ross was filming some stuff at prom.
Apparently the studio wanted just a straight up remake of the original and that’s why the movie had to be pushed back to October so they could reshoot it. Again I don’t know if any of this is true, but I have heard that the cut we got the director was not really all too happy with because her original cut was much better from what I understand.
If this is true I’d really like to see her cut of the movie. The movie’s biggest issue was that it was almost a shot by shot remake of the original.

That's basically what I've read about it... We had more testimonies for the White commission... Sue Snell's video diaries, The Beak filming more of a found footage angle, even more town destruction, What happened to Erica and her date, etc.
But the studio wasn't happy and cobbled it together to resemble the 1976 movie.
Now the 2002 made for TV version is closest version we have to the book. (Sans the very ending.) There was an announcement that "Carrie" would be made into an FX limited series. But no updates since.

It’s funny how much people hate the tv remake. Yeah the ending sucked, but I remembered it being closer to the book. Yeah I don’t know how a Carrie tv show would have done and I’m glad it never happened.

I barely remember the TV version, I don't remember how it ends at all, but I do recall thinking Angela Bettis was terrific.

It basically ends the same way as the original, but with Sue and Carrie leaving the town and moving into another and leading into a tv show. The tv remake was just supposed to be the pilot for it, but since the pilot episode didn’t do as well as expected they canned it.

She was expecting to star in the Series to fund her Indie movie projects. A psychic detective was cut from the TV movie as well. She was on the hunt for Carrie.
