I never see ANYONE mention this when talking about movies based on video games so I guess I will. Ok so this one actually has a bit of an interesting backstory. So this movie was actually meant to be released theatrically, but since THQ was going bankrupt (THQ was the publisher of the video game Company of heroes) so they decided to instead release this straight to dvd. Also the writer of the movie adaption would go on to write the game’s sequel.
I’ve actually never played the video games. I understand they are really good, but I don’t like RTS’s. The film follows a team of American soldiers lost behind enemy lines who discover Hitler is making a super bomb. There’s more to it then that, but that’s all I remember. The cast consists of Tom Sizemore, Vinnie Jones, Neal McDonough (ok what is it with this guy and video game movies?) and other actors and actresses I’m not familiar with.
From what I remember of this movie it wasn’t terrible, but certainly wasn’t great. It definitely felt like it was meant to be released theatrically and truthfully it MIGHT have done ok. Honestly it just felt like any other war movie. There was nothing too special about it from what I remember. I think everyone gives a decent performance. No one really stuck out in this. The action is decent too again nothing special.
I wish I could say more about this and that I had more knowledge of the video game cause I really do think it’s interesting that this one goes so unnoticed. This really felt like maybe they were trying to make a decent video game movie.
I’d give it a 7/10
