So as far as I know movie theaters in the US are 100% back open. However, new movies that have been released are not doing as well as pre-pandemic movie releases. We are still technically in a pandemic (even tho many like to act like it's over). How much do you think the pandemic is effecting peoples willingness to go to the movies versus them just not wanting to go for other reasons?

Like you said, the pandemic is still on, even though a lot of people act like its not. So yes, a lot of people are still going to stay away. Also, lets be honest, the movies that would pull people into theatres in the numbers you're talking about haven't come out just yet. Black Widow and Fast 9 will tell the tale.

I think there are still people reluctant to go out to a theater. Also, as far as I know, my theater is still not operating at full capacity. When you buy a ticket, they X-out the seats on either side of you so nobody can sit there. So, not all theaters are at full capacity.

Here in Texas the theaters have been back open for awhile. But yeah I think some are not doing full capacity.
The last two films I saw at the theater were for the kids, Tom and Jerry and Raya and the Last Dragon. Tom and Jerry was pretty filled up. Raya was for a bday party so it was all kids for one of my daughter's friends. I definitely missed being at the theater even though they weren't really films that I cared much about.

I think there are more than one factor here.
The movie selection this year has been weak. Also, the WB deal with HBO has made it easier to just watch movies at home that you would have had to go to the cinema to see before the pandemic.
The pandemic is definitely a big part of it, but not just because people still have worries. They have gotten use to just watching movies at home over the past year and I think that is playing a part. It definitely is for me at least.
I haven't seen any movies at the cinema this year and part of that is because the selection has been weak and the few I would have went to see at the cinema have been available on HBO Max.

If you've got the vaccine you shouldn't be scared unless you're an idiot.

If you've got the vaccine you shouldn't be scared unless you're an idiot. Exactly!! Stop being a pussy and go and live life. I agree though there just hasn’t been any movies really worth seeing in theaters.

I'm not vaccinated, I'm not wearing a mask, and I'm enjoying my life.
I'm looking forward to going to a movie theater to see a film on the big screen. Just let me know when there's a movie worth seeing, thanks.

If you've got the vaccine you shouldn't be scared unless you're an idiot. I'm vaccinated. I haven't stopped doing anything I would normally do post vaccination, but I still wear a mask when I'm inside public spaces. The truth is the vaccine is not 100% effective. Not yet anyways. You can still get it. Yes, I know the chances of that are very small. But why even take a small chance at contributing to an even larger problem? A big reason why we keep having problems in the US is because many refuse to get vaccinated. They are starting to have a huge problem in Arkansas because not enough people are getting vaccinated. Until we stop seeing this, I'll do my part and mask up inside. It's really no big deal. thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/561040-arkansas-reports-highest-one-day-covid-19-case-spike-in-4-months

Lots of people took financial hits, and theatres can be expensive. Especially if you’re taking your whole family.
Streaming at home is obviously cheaper.

I get a flu shot every year. A few years ago I did end up getting the flu. But Covid is seemingly more dangerous than the flu. It spreads faster and easier. There is also a stronger risk of damage to your lungs. I also gotta be honest with you, I'm considering adapting mask wearing during flu season. When I got the flu it sucked. I was stuck in bed for two weeks. The first week I couldn't even move. I really don't want to go through that again. If experts say masks can help reduce transmission of the flu then I'm gonna have to seriously consider using them every winter.
