February 21st marks the 20th anniversary of "The Empire Strikes Back: Special Edition".
What do you all think of this version of "The Empire Strikes Back"? Did any of you see it in the theater?
This is the version that had the least amount of changes from George Lucas.
One change that I thought was weird when this first came out was Lucas added a scream to Luke when Luke willingly fell down that pit after fighting Vader. This is for real and not a joke.

this is one of my favorite films ever. i saw it twice in the theater which (if my memory isn't faulty) makes it only the second movie i've gone to view more than once. a friend of mine actually fell asleep (!) during one of them.
i'm not fond of Special Edition changes for the most part but i did quite like the Cloud City windows. the wampa scene i am iffy about. the creature looked great in the new footage but it felt so choppy spliced into the original film that it's hard to get behind.

Well it's not easy to take footage shot in 1997 and make it blend seamlessly with footage from 1980.

I'm not too keen on the additions made to Empire.Lucas did this for a cash grab(IMHO).

Not many ppl seem to agree yet I like Vader's shuttle shots in between Luke being rescued. I think it adds some tension to the sequence before they 'encounter' one another during the Falcon flyby.

I must be one of those people, because the way the scene was altered almost ground the movie to a halt during the escape from Cloud City. Vader wanted to find Luke asap, so it made more sense for Vader to to say short and sweet, "Bring my shuttle". To me, the added slower music cues cut the tension that was building. That being said, I liked the additional cosmetic changes to Cloud City. All this movie really needed was remastering.

My favorite Star Wars film and the changes don't bother me all that much.
