Here's basically what he was saying, people that believe in god are wrong. And people that say others should believe in god, are wrong too.
But he pretty much does the exact same thing, because he was saying that others can't believe in god.
In other words:
He's criticizing people that say you should believe in god, which that by itself is ok. But the problem is, he takes it a step too far because he is saying that you should definately not believe in god.
Ya i don't really need some christopher hitchens or bill maher telling me what i can or can't believe in.

Your interpretation of Hitchens seems at odds with his own words: "I wouldn't say it's wrong for people to believe in God, but I would say those who believe in a God are very seriously mistaken. Anyone who thinks they can definitively state Gods exist or 'There are no Gods' is full of themselves.

Hitchens had a few interesting soundbites, but I found little use for him. Dawkins is an educated man that contributes to our understanding of the universe, listen to him.
