Cool- looking poster. I really think this will be a good film, but I fear that it will flop financially regardless. I think Villeneuve is one of those directors who is bound to make films that are good or great but just don't appeal to a mass audience.

He has great movies, but no one goes to see them.

Okay, so I ended up scrolling madly through Tumblr for a while on the Lady Jessica & Chani tags, while I was in a waiting room today. Found all sorts of cool things that have made me excited for this movie.
-In the trailer, Leto asking if Jessica would protect Paul, "With my life!" -Leto telling Paul that he just loves him, he doesn't need him to be a hero -The fact that Leto is getting to be the sweeter, softer dad while Lady Jessica is portrayed as a soldier who shows her love by making sure Paul is ready for the dangerous world around him so her emotional moments are hidden from Paul. -Apparently, while the books are Princess Irulian's dictation of the events - the movie aims to tell things from Chani's perspective rather than Irulian, which means the stuff on Arakis will be CHANI telling us what happened. -Duncan Idaho looks like he gets more of a role this time -The fact there seems to be some humour. It isn't all dour, serious, bleak crap 24/7. -The director apparently honed in on the fact that Lady Jessica is an ultimate disruptor. Her choice to have Paul, rather than the daughter the Bene G. wanted her to give Leto, and the fact that she truly believed that he might well grow to become the messiah type figure that the Bene G. have been trying to bring about/predict/control for a 1,000 years. Jessica was like, "I will give Leto a son, and our son will become the prophesied figure you all feared the coming of, and I will make sure you cannot control him" -The fact that they are not trying to cram the ENTIRE BOOK into 2 hours. They are only doing roughly the first half of the book, into a longer movie.
