I knew he would not be white.
Don't they care that they are stuck taking whitey projects instead of making their own?
Imagine if a white director was told to make a film about John Henry starring Brad Pitt. Would either director or actor be happy about that?
It's embarrassing for its lack of creative freedom.
Yes it strikes a blow against white culture by erasing white faces but it's not flattering that blacks are chained to white culture for their artistic employment.

I thought Chris Pine was starring in it? I remember that announcement too. But I guess that’s not happening. At least he’s got Dungeons & Dragons.

Is Dexter Fletcher still directing? He was the main reason I was looking forward to this.

They keep trying to make another Saint adaptation work—and it keeps not working. In large part, that’s because they’re tying to remake the Roger Moore show (or at least its premise) without adapting the original Leslie Charteris books and short stories, to which the Moore show was surprisingly faithful. The Charteris stories had a distinct and idiosyncratic point of view, basically what John Dickson Carr biographer Douglas Greene called “aristocratic egalitarianism.” The Saint is gallant and old-fashioned in his behavior and personal moral code, but he’s also liberal and open-minded, a man of the world. He doesn’t rush to judgment, he condemns and contemns prejudice and bigotry, he sticks up for the underdog. That worldview transferred over to the Moore series (vide “The Saint Plays with Fire,” in which Simon fights Establishment fascists). Remove that perspective and you’ve got a generic spy show.

I thought Chris Pine was starring in it? That's why I was confused when I first saw a headline about Page being in it now instead of Pine. Guess I missed the memo that THE SAINT and Pine had gone their separate ways.

EXACTLY! They try to make it more like the original MISSION IMPOSSIBLE show, without the charm - a knockoff BOND. They don't get that the reason Moore had been perfectly cast in the show, was that very thing- he always strikes you as all the best parts of being a gallant gentleman, but at the same time was a modern, liberally-minded man. Whenever you saw stuff with Moore, that's the vibe you got from him, which is why he worked so well as The Saint. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the 90s movie with Val Kilmer. I do, it's a personal favourite of mine. However, even I would agree that they lost some of the charm of Roger Moore's adaptation, when they adapted it to the 90s movie. It's a whole different animal than Moore's show had been. When they had announced Pine was going to play Simon Templar at one point, I had been a little more interested cause I thought he could play the role either way--- he could be Moore 2.0 or he could do the Kilmer version. Don't know about the new guy, I haven't seen him in anything but I'll keep an open mind until we see a trailer.

If it was it was a VERY POOR adaption. Kilmer is no Roger Moore. If they wanted someone like Moore they should have gotten someone like Brosnan, but I assume he was too busy playing Bond, or that would have been TOO OBVIOUS. Heck I don’t even think it was true to the stories about The Saint. If you thought this was a good adaption of the show I suggest you go back and watch the show.
