Though he didn't place blame at the film, which he heaped praise upon, but 'years of tone-deaf management'.
TEXT:
In a series of posts online, Liefeld reacted to the view that The Suicide Squad's lackluster opening weekend meant big changes will be coming to DC. "Then get rid of everyone, top to bottom. Start over," the writer stated. In response to criticism that this was an unfair view due to the pandemic, Liefeld said, "Except those numbers will be out tomorrow and they won't be the difference maker."
Unfortunately, DC is just a damaged brand at this point. Marvel has pulled away in such spectacular fashion and DC has lost ground on all platforms.
He then wrote, "Unfortunately, DC is just a damaged brand at this point. Marvel has pulled away in such spectacular fashion and DC has lost ground on all platforms." When asked why he believed that is, the comic book creator replied, "Years of tone deaf mismanagement." Liefeld added, "Make no doubt, The Suicide Squad is a great film. James Gunn added so much style and heart. The problem is deeper, beyond the pandemic and streaming. Looking forward to PEACEMAKER regardless."

disagree, the marketing was bad and TSS looked like the first movie again. Joker made over a billion and won a Oscar for Best Actor. Watchman won the best limited series at Emmys. What a disaster for DC?

Studios have to stop expecting box office numbers to be there while covid is still a thing. They could release this generations Titanic and many in the US let alone the world wouldn't or couldn't go to see it.

They could release this generations Titanic and many in the US let alone the world wouldn't or couldn't go to see it. They're all in tough spots because they pretty much planned out at least the next 2-3 years of films pre-pandemic. So even tho we are still in a pandemic the need for these films to make pre-pandemic money is still there. I expect many studios are currently shuffling to rapidly reduce costs of films going into production soon.

Maybe this movie wouldn't do well under normal conditions, but i expect it would have. But if it doesn't do well now, under pandemic conditions, studios need to understand it has a lot less to do with the quality of the film and a lot more to do with a horrible virus affecting everyones daily lifestyle.

Only a fool would risk his life just for a movie.

What a disaster for DC? The Joker was a character study which wouldn't feel in anyway related to the DCEU if it wasn't titled - "The Joker." And there will be no season 2 of Watchmen, so it can't have been that popular.

Director Martin Campbell piles on WB in reference to Green Lantern's failure. TEXT: As part of the promotional campaign for his new movie The Protรฉgรฉ, Martin Campbell (whose credits also include GoldenEye, The Mask of Zorro and Casino Royale), held a Reddit AMA to answer all sorts of questions. Perhaps inevitably, Green Lantern eventually came up, with Campbell writing the following when asked what was the worst fight heโd ever been in: "With the Warner executives, over Green Lantern." Yikes! Apparently during the course of making Green Lantern, Martin Campbell butted heads with Warner Bros executives at least once, if not several times, about what the final product should look like. www.cinemablend.com/news/2571884/like-ryan-reynolds-green-lanterns-director-thoughts-dc-flick-marvel-martin-campbell

I found Suicide 2 a bit aimless/distracted. It wasn't tight. It felt indulgent in places, but not in a good fan service way.

What a disaster for DC? The marketing was fine. The Joker was barely a DC movie. A couple Batman references thrown in to bring in Batfans. You can't compare it to a regular superhero flick. I think the R rating & the Delta variant affected it, but Suicide 2 had issues.

The movieโs underperformance was a combination of various factors. The response to the first movie, the hybrid release and the growing uncertainty of the pandemic all played a role.
