no way... this makes you sound ancient 😂🤣 I was brought up in an extremely poor rural area in the 1950's . My grandparents there had rejected the modern ways and the government . They still had a horse & buggy , kerosene lanterns and candles , no fridge , vacuum cleaner or washing machine . They used a very big copper tub to boil their washing in and a mechanical clothes wringer , in an outshed . Water was got from an outdoor hand pump. Indoors for relaxation was sometimes from a wind-up record player , and yes occasionally someone with a violin . In the evening , my grandad would smoke his pipe and chat , and grandma would always do some lacework . Most of the other people in the area were similar . All of the cars and trucks were older or very old . There were moonshiners throughout the area , and the government was referred to as revenuers or federals . Most of the meat on the table was from hunting or fishing . We generally ate well .
I'm pretty sure paislene, we are about the same age (68), but I was raised in California . My dad was a Teamster so we had modern conveniences. lol Did you have a hula hoop? I did. I got a used bike .

1. I watched Saturday morning cartoons, when I was a kid, 2. Star Wars was the Harry Potter of its day, when I was a kid, 3. Before he went off to Hollywood, the late movie actor Corey Haim was my schoolmate, for a brief while. 4. Fluorescent coloured-clothing was a fad for a brief time, when I was a teenager. 5. In high school, I did a co-op in a kindergarten, & movie actor Hayden Christensen's little sister was in the class. Did my Canadian friend just turn the big ![](https://www.drodd.com/images16/50-4.jpg) I wouldn't guess, clu, if you hadn't asked. i believe I was graduating high school when you were born. lol

Men's "duck tail" hair style Widespread use of slick-down men's hair products like Vitalis and Brylcreem (these products still exist but I almost never see a man obviously using them) Controversy and outrage over Elvis Presley's gyrating hips on the Ed Sullivan Show Drug stores with lunch counters Cars with huge tail fins ![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c2/1959_Cadillac_Tailfins_(3636222621).jpg) the tail fins were from the missile race. and the missile craze flowed over to women's brassieres. BLUSH Sorry to be so indelicate, me being a '50's girl. lol thank you for this thread, Mike! You really gave me wonderful memories! Even those who are younger, I thought about what was happening in my life when that happened. thank you!

Born 1969.
1) covers decades 2) late 70s - early 80s 3) Lost Boys 4) Not where I lived but it could only be one era, mid-late 80s.
5) Means nothing to me
Off by 2 years (Born in 1971, not '69). 1)True but, they kind of went out, sometime in the '90s. 2) Correct. 3)Yep. He of The Lost Boys fame. 4)Mid 80s actually. 5)Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in 2 of those 3 awful Star Wars prequels. I guessed '71, thus fifty years old, clu! and I had not seen this.

Aww, I love the look of bullet bras. I always thought they were so much more flattering to the female figure than today's underwire smooshy bras.

I felt I was a part of the culture, when in reality, I was just a 13 year old kid.

my husband is the same age as I and he remembers:
a crank phone in rural Iowa
what dates me?
Talking to my neighbor about her mother coming cross country in a covered wagon. (Fascinating)
Eisenhower on TV
The 1960 election of JFK over Nixon
Sputnik , that it happened, but not what it meant. Just that my parents were concerned.
Alaska became a state.

I'm pretty sure paislene, we are about the same age (68), but I was raised in California . My dad was a Teamster so we had modern conveniences. lol Did you have a hula hoop? I did. I got a used bike . Thanks for the reply , enigma72 . I know what a hula hoop is . It's something I became familiar with in the mid-60's . Though my time in the 1950's was very much back to nature , living in a remote area and the community was slowly fading away because there was no work there . There was a strong ethical and conservative Christian view there including connections with Quakers , Mennonites and Amish folk . The Quakers and Amish are not great conversationalists , and so we remained on the edge as outsiders . But that way of life was coming to an end by the mid-sixties , with most moving on or having passed .

The BabyBoomer Triple Crown: - Know where I was when JFK was killed - Saw the Beatles live - Served in Vietnam I know where I was when JFK was killed I saw Elvis and The Beatles on their first appearances on Ed Sullivan. I was in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era but was not in Vietnam or anywhere else but the States.

CD player Facebook, no Instagram Austin Powers impressions Westside hand sign Knowing my Hogwarts house I'll try, kid of the late 80s - 90s, born 1983, maybe as early as 1979.
edit, rationale 1) Late 80s 2) Relatively recent 3) Late 90s 4) ? No idea what this means 5) Early 2000s
edit, changing my guess to late 80s, 1989
Pretty damn close. Early 90s (1991). The westside hand sign is turning your fingers into a W. It was popularized in the mid 90s during the east coast/west coast rap feud. ![](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/slangtalk/images/4/46/Tupac_west_side.jpg)
