Breaking Training and Go to Japan. Are they any good? I've never felt much incentive to watch them with Matthau and O'Neal being absent.

I like Breaking Training myself. Jackie Earle Haley and William Devane play good roles in it.
I never saw Go to Japan because I hear nothing but terrible things about it...lol

I was manager of a theatre in 1976 and we booked The Bad News Bears. Thought it was one of the best moves we had shown that year. Excellent audience reaction, too. Stopped to watch a few minutes every chance I got and finally made time to see all of it during one of the evening showings (which I had only done once or twice before). The movie has one of the greatest ensemble kid casts I've ever seen in a film. There is not one false move from any of them.
Snapped up the dvd as soon as it became available.
I may have checked out Breaking Training but I don't remember. Devane is a fine actor, but he's no Matthau. From what I've heard about Breaking Training and Go to Japan, neither came close to the duplicating the glow of the original.

Well into my seventh decade. Yep, old enough to remember the day the dinosaurs died.

If I recall correctly... I think I saw "Breaking Training", first, since it was on Cable TV all the time, while I was growing up in the 1980s... It was only later, I think, when they came out on DVD, that I saw the other films...
Not really a fan of the original. Didn't care for O'Neal... and while Matthau is a good actor, his character was terrible...
I prefer "Breaking Training". I like it because they are now a team, and on their way, by themselves, to play the big game at the dome...
But yeah, The Original is better than "Go To Japan". That one was terrible...
