Dark Crystal Prequel Series Snags 10-Episode Order at Netflix. Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, The Incredible Hulk) will executive produce and direct.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will take place “many years” before the events of the film. “When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”
Well then those Gelflings fail, because we saw what the world of the Dark Crystal was like lol

Saw there were a few new pictures from AGE OF RESISTANCE, on Tumblr from a couple magazines that are printing interviews/etc. about it. One shows Deet and the male gelfling, another is of a critter, one of the male Gelfling looking down through a grate of some sort, and another of Deet and the male gelfling.

Seems they are releasing photos now that have the picture of the character, the name of the character, and who is playing them. Nice to see some of the character-names and who is voicing them.

I'm a fan of the original for 34 years since i was 4 and this new prequel TV series looks like there is heart/passion/effort put into this series just like Blade Runner 2049 and be respectful to the first film.
It looks like it's taking notes from Blade Runner 2049, in being a passion project to respect a film or franchise. What’s most compelling about that trailer, though, is the stunning fidelity to the original film, which suggests the project’s authors — including film director Louis Leterrier, PBS producers Lisa Henson (Jim Henson’s daughter) and Halle Stanford, and creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews — have a deep respect for the original source material and aren’t just out for a quick nostalgia cash-grab.
I love the use of balance between practical and new effects combined plus passion, love and care for the original looks like a labor of love and a passion project with the right balance of effects, heart, soul, budget and all that just like Blade Runner 2049 of being true and respectful to the source material instead of being some shitty halfassed soulless moneygrab insult to a franchise for the sake of a quick buck just to piss on the legacy like Critters A New Cringe, the sequels after Aliens (which was the last Alien film worth a damn), Terminator after T2 (T2 was the end of the story), The Predaturd 2018, Assbusters 2016, Star Wars The Last Straw, Robocop 3/the tv show and miniseries/Robocrap remake, Elm Street remake and all that.

Almost everything I've read about it is negative and the good stuff came from people with whom I rarely agree. I've lost enthusiasm.

I have been pacing myself, instead of watching all 10 hours at once, and have been enjoying it. A bit gross in places for my tastes (I wouldn't recommend eating mozzarella sticks or chili while watching), but overall good.

Four episodes in and I'm loving this. I love that kids will sit down and watch it, because this show is going to scare the crap right out of those little buggers, lol. It's pretty dark and twisted stuff, but it's great. Supremely well done. Puts me in mind of Avatar a little, in how well they've constructed this world and the things that live in it.
I am a little puzzled as to how the world of the series fits in to the world of the movie. The narration seemed to indicate that the Skeksis are aliens or something, rather than the origin the movie gave them. But then the series seems to be set after the crystal has already cracked, so perhaps the people in the world don't know the truth of what happened? In any case, I'm intrigued to see where they go with it.
Overall, I'm enjoying this more than any other series I've seen lately.

I haven't gotten all the way through it, but as I understand it- the show is making it seem more like both sides of the split got sent to Thra as like some sort of Time-Out for bad behavior (which, I would assume, might explain why they disappear up into the ether when they are reunified), and that the Gelfling have never been permitted to know that the Skeksis are not technically from Thra. A friend of mine said, from having read a couple of the books and comics, that it is a little clearer to her than it seems to be to me, although she's also seen the whole 10 episodes- so that probably helps.

In any case, I'm intrigued to see where they go with it. Overall, I'm enjoying this more than any other series I've seen lately. Avatar in both Airbender show and Cameron's movie? Well the Urseks are explained in episode 7 as this show is set many years after the amazing origin graphic novels Creation Myths which were about the world being born even Aughra born, how the Urseks were on Thra and experimented on the crystal as a way to go back home until one bad Ursek did a spell on them to split them apart and this show is set 24 years before the events of the movie. WOW, what a show. Anyone who grew up with the 1982 Jim Henson fantasy classic who is either an 80s kid or a 90s kid (ones who saw it on video or on Disney Channel in the 90s) or even those who are 80s/90s kids hybrids like me (born 38 years ago and adored the movie for for 34 years since i was 4 when my parents bought me the movie on VHS at 4 then 25 years ago i rebought the movie on Disney's VHS when i was 13 in 94 then in 2000 i replaced the tape with DVD then in 2009 with blu-ray and last year i bought the ultraHD 4K BD which is my first UltraHD 4K BD purchase). Here's an excellent worthy prequel series to a fantasy classic. What do you get when you cross Game of Thrones, Robert E Howard, Frank Herbert, George Martin, JRR Tolkein, Demolition Man (themes of so-called benevolent leaders where rebels can see greed and deception), Avatar (both airbender and Cameron), Star Wars, Legend of Zelda and Fraggle Rock? you get this epic series. I love the world building, different gelfling tribes, the origin of how Skektek got his eye removed and all that. Complexity, dark and edgy stuff like eye removal to some blood splatter from a head bash that makes you "holy shit" and political intrigue about kingdoms even war with a sharp sense of humor and excellent writing. All in 10 60 minute episodes in a miniseries kind of way. Even some rousing action in some episodes.. This is using practical effects, animatronics, people in suits, puppets, cgi, models and all balanced together and is a passion project made by people who have an actual love of the original and honoring Henson's legacy and respecting the material just like Blade Runner 2049 was to Blade Runner as that was an excellent sequel. This, Cobra Kai and Blade Runner 2049 succeeded at reviving 80s properties where lazy halfassed soulless passionless moneygrab insult attempts at reviving older properties like Ghostbusters, Last Jedi Robocop, Elm Street etc failed miserably. This looks like it's doing Jim proud! and nice cast too even Mark Hamil as the scientist to many more. It also respects the original characters even to Aughra unlike what Last Jedi did to Luke. Plus made by fans and for fans and knew it succeeded even in creating new fans and i can't wait for season 2. Good job Jim Henson Company! my favorite show of the year

Why would the cancellation of a TV show be announced right after winning the most important TV award?! I remember reading interviews where the writers/producers talked about plans for a second season, but to me it sounded more like "We're open to continue, but if we don't, it's fine." It didn't surprise me at the time, since season 1 felt like a self-contained story. As time passed, I assumed that this would be one of those shows where they only announce the renewal but not the cancellation in the vein of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and RICK & MORTY ("If there haven't been new episodes, it's because we're not working on them, but the show still isn't over"). And now they say this, over a year after the release of season 1? A very odd situation to say the least.
In case you're wondering: No, I didn't like the series (nor the movie), but that didn't affect my opinion on anything I wrote above.
