In my opinion, at the heart of the DC movies problems are two issues... A) They refuse to follow the Marvel formula. And by that I do not mean the funny and the formulaic stories. But rather the interconnectedness that the Marvel movies excel at. Look at Shang Chi for example. That movie shouldn't really come across as a Marvel movie. It should just come across as martial arts movie. But they are so smart at interspersing it with mentions of Iron Man, and appearances by Wong and Abomination, and after credits scenes starring Captain Marvel and Banner . If they did things like that they might be more along the way to creating movies that are more united. less haphazard, and more successful. B) The hiring of Zack Snyder. NOW DO NOT GET ME WRONG! I like Zack Snyder. When I first found out he was going to do Superman I was very excited, and I even very much liked all three of his DC movies. But, even I have to admit that he skews the darker side in terms of story and tone. There's no sense of lightness or humor in his movies. Its all about visuals and even those are dark. That might work for Batman (which is probably what he should have done since those are the best parts of Batman V Superman), but it doesn't work across the board for all the Justice League characters. Case in point, Superman should be a hero of hope, and in BvS he mostly mopes. And then he dies. Wtf? But what DC/Warner Bros doesn't seem to understand is this:
The cast of the Justice League, and related movies, are good, and beloved. They can still make great movies with them. IF... They just hire better directors! People who direct more upbeat movies. I thought the director of Shazam! did a great job which would have been boosted by a bigger budget. IMO The DC movies are not a lost cause, but they need cohesion, and directors who make fun movies, not just visual movies. "Dark" works for Batman and Joker, but for Superman etc. you need upbeat! Hopefully Flash and the next Aquaman prove me right. Thoughts?

I stopped caring about interconnectivity a long time ago, and I’ve been on record in saying that I think WB should’ve just scrapped everything related to the DCEU after ZSJL, and just focused on standalones like Matt Reeves’ Batman. With that said, I think it’s possible that we’re going to start seeing more of a connective tissue beginning in 2022. The question is, would the general public care by that point?

...I think it’s possible that we’re going to start seeing more of a connective tissue beginning in 2022. The question is, would the general public care by that point? Exactly. Will Flash/Flashpoint and Aquaman 2 be enough? Will THE Batman just be confusing? Will we ever see henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in SIGNIFICANT roles as opposed to maybe a cameo here and there? At this point I cant tell. What I can say for sure is that if Marvel decided to do a full on Howard the Duck movie that crap would be a hug hit! Just slap Marvel on it! Shit, they could make a movie about that cat in Captain marvel and it'll hit!
