I had heard about this before when it's was mere suggestion.
We had the Tungunska incident in 1908 and the Chelyabinsk meteor in 2013 and if either of those had happened directly over a populated area, the damage would've been catastrophic. We really to invest more in asteroid avoidance.

Sort of like the plot for Your Name where the town of Itomori is destroy by a comet fragment.

Or not.
Or, it could be an ancient tale made up to scare people and get them in line. A fable with a moral. To me, that is the most reasonable explanation.

The middle-east was the center of civilization. Unlike Tungunska, which is in the middle of nowhere, an explosion that large would have been recorded

This is fascinating. I really love it when ancient myths are explained by actual events like this. It’s similar to how Noah’s Arc was almost certainly inspired by actual floods and the collective fear of natural disaster. And how Atlantis may be an amalgam of real cities that were destroyed by volcanic eruption, tsunamis or erosion.

Strange coincidence it happened right after that angel rape incident. Just think of what would have happened if they actually managed to bang an angel.
