Say that in a Luis Bunuel's The Exterminating Angel sort of event happened and it were somehow impossible to create or watch a conventional animated film. You could replace it with an existing or nonexistent media of your choice. What would it be?

Would that include CGI special effects? If so a lot more model makers would still be hard at work making miniatures. Apart from that we’d still have live action entertainment to watch and comics to read.

Everything except basic compositing like putting part of one shot on top of another or chroma keying that's not done frame by frame would probably be eliminated. It's hard to consider every possibility.

Manga, but in read-along format (accompanying audio track featuring character voices and other sounds and *ding* noise prompts for turning the pages; actually, perhaps I don't need the *ding* prompts anymore).

Of course there’s always the flip book.
