I'm not sure how I feel about this just yet. Parts of it look cool but then it seems like the plot is going to be overstuffed just because Universal wants a shared universe so badly. Then there's moments of CGI overload (not that the Brendan Fraser ones didn't succumb to that).

This just looks stupid as hell. I get why Universal wants to create a shared universe for their classic monsters and I'm all for that, I just don't like the direction they're seemingly going to take (big, loud CGI action). I would have much preferred a smaller, more classically Gothic feel to everything, much like the originals. Medium sized budgets, PG13 ratings (yes, if done right PG13 horror can be scary), while the movies might only gross in the 500 million area, with a smaller budget they'd turn a nice little profit. That formula appears to be working for the Kong and Godzilla reboots, I don't see a valid reason why it couldn't work here. Instead we get Mission Impossible 6 with a mummy as the villain. Yawn.

We already had blockbuster movies about the Universal monsters already with the Mummy remakes and Van Helsing. I would have loved an old school Gothic styled approach. It worked for Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992).

I still think Crowe's Jekyll and S.B.'s lady-Mummy are the only reasons to watch it. Would be more excited if it didn't have Cruise, but I'll put up with him for Crowe & Boutella.

Apparently Javier Bardem is playing Frankenstein's Monster in this continuity too.

Why are they making another Mummy film?
The original (or previous one) is shown every week (literally. I'm not joking here) on Channel 5 in the UK.
I'm sick to death of 'The Mummy'!
I certainly won't be watching it!

i'm not entirely sure what it's supposed to be. i wonder if the film itself is.
it doesn't seem to have the tone of a Universal Monster picture.

Here's hoping the BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN will be a little more of a throwback to the old black'n'white horror film tone and less of an action movie. I mean, action works for MUMMY (and yup, the B.F. version from '99 will always be my favorite incarnation) but I feel like BRIDE needs more psychological thriller/horror/mystery to it. Just my two cents.

Yes, I mostly agree with your sentiments. I'm worried they are going to go too over the top. I would love to see a real gothic horror reboot of the Universal Monsters. Overall, the Mummy looks like it will be pretty good but I think they may just go too far. You don't have to destroy the whole city of London for crying out loud! I would hope they learned from their mistakes with Dracula Untold. That movie started pretty good but then turned into a super hero origin story. In short, it was awful. I still have high hopes for the "Dark Universe", they just need to control themselves and remember these are supposed to be spooky, atmospheric, horror stories.

The new trailers are emphasizing the humor that happens so I guess it's going to have comedic elements to it like "Edge of Tomorrow" did?

Well, the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies had comedic elements to them as well, so I can see where they're going with this, humour-wise

The humor should just be at the beginning. Not throughout the entire film. Wasn't this "Universal Monster-verse" supposed 2 b more serious then the BF Mummy films & Van Helsing?
