Like many other people, I was pretty disappointed with Jesse Eisenberg’s depiction of Lex Luthor for the longest time, and it baffled me that they chose to take the character in that direction, but looking back, I think I can kind of see what they were going for.
Yes, Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is a manic weirdo who does some really bizarre things and can barely seem to form coherent thoughts, but I think that’s the point? He’s someone who has delusions of grandeur, when in reality, he’s an emotionally stunted manchild who hates Superman solely because his existence challenges Lex’s worldview. Mind you, the character’s scheme is still rather convoluted, and I do think I might‘ve still preferred a more traditional Post-Crisis take the on the character, but overall I think Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor has aged better than something like Jared Leto’s Joker.

I wasn't against the casting and I liked his appearance in JL slightly better than in BVS. As for a reappearance well, there's a rumor floating around.

Lex Luthor was never an emotionally stunted manchild he was a calculating villain.
I found Jesse's Lex Luthor too much like the Joker or the Riddler. He was convincingly fucked in the head, he just wasn't convincingly Lex Luthor. And his scenes with Holly Hunter were some of the weirdest scenes I've ever seen any movie.
It deviated from being a Superman movie to feeling like a special needs teacher watching from a distance.

I understood what they were trying to do with Eisenberg Lex... and I still think it sucks. Way go to to make one of most well-known DC villains into a joke. DC had an even worse villain problem than Marvel. Faora was the best villain they had.

I remember watching BvS and Eisenberg's hair looked like a bad wig, and I kept waiting for them to reveal that he'd been bald the while time and they never did.

I’ve always liked the take and am still unsure why people hate it so much.

I’ve always liked the take and am still unsure why people hate it so much. New takes are fine within reason, but people haven't followed the character for decades just to see him turned into the polar opposite of what they liked about him in the first place. It doesn't help that Eisnberg isn't well suited to this kind of material. It was divisive when Jim Carrey did it in Batman, and Eisenberg is no Jim Carrey.

Jar of piss aside, I think it’d make slightly more sense if Jesse Eisenberg was playing someone like Glorious Godfrey instead.

Yeah, I liked his Luthor. I’d like to see him alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

Just bumping this thread to say that in recent days, I’ve come to the realization that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is basically Elon Musk.
