Somehow a little Aussie movie came out in the U.S. 35 years ago with an unknown Aussie lead and ended up becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 1986. "Fish-out-of-water" stories seemed to be the thing in 1986 with this and Star Trek IV. Too bad Paul Hogan became a "one hit wonder" for movies even though he did two sequels to this film and had done a few other films.
Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review:
Crocodile Dundee (1986) - 3 out of 4 stars
"Amiable, laid-back Aussie comedy (that became an enormous world-wide hit) about an adventurer who shows a pretty American reporter around the bush country, then accompanies her to the equally strange terrain of N.Y.C. Irresistibly simple and old-fashioned, with a sweetness that's rare in modern comedies. Hogan, making his movie debut, also cowrote the screenplay (reportedly inspired by TARZAN'S NEW YORK ADVENTURE). For American release quotation marks were added around CROCODILE--lest anyone think it was about a reptile! Followedy by two sequels. Panavison."

I dislike it. It's a movie where nothing happens of any consequence. The jungle trek and the city hijinks are both insufferably mundane.
The sequel is a lot better. It has a story, a plot and some decent action.

Surprised they haven’t tried to remake it with Chris Hemsworth or something.

Fun film, I remember Mom taking my brother and I to see it at the theater. My brother and I tried to imitate Dundee’s accent and lines the rest of the weekend. Particularly the “That’s not a knife, this is a knife.”
The scenery was real nice in the Australian portion. I think part 2 was better overall but it was still a really great comedy for the time. I remember it kicked off a big awareness for all things Australian.

It's an 80s classic. The aussie centric humor unqiue and Paul Hogan brings an old school leading man charm as Mick Dundee, similar to guys like Steve McQueen and Clint Eastwood. CD has one of the greatest endings of all time. Not a lot of times you see the girl run after the guy.
