Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film.
FIRST TIME MOVIE VIEWING
Pale Rider (1985, Clint Eastwood) A really good western directed by and starring Clint Eastwood that I had thought I had seen and I had seen parts of it for sure but I had thought it was a different kind of film more like Silverado. It was however a much more serious film that feels like a partner film with High Plains Drifter in many ways. 7.5/10
Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970, Don Siegel) I had seen the last half of the shorter version of this film before but this is the first time I have seen it from start to finish and it being the longer version. From what I can tell, I think I would prefer the shorter version of this as the middle section of this film is a little dull. This is an American attempt at a spaghetti western and although it has its moments it does not compare to the genius of the best Sergio Leone films. The score from Morricone is great though and the film is worth checking out. 7/10
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976, Clint Eastwood) This was my second attempt at this film as I did not care for it the last time I tried to watch it and bailed early. I did not care for the beginning again but the film does get better as it goes along and by the time he gets his Native American travelling companion it really picks up. 6.5/10
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974, Michael Cimino) With the help of an irreverent young sidekick (Jeff Bridges), a bank robber (Clint Eastwood) gets his old gang back together to organize a daring new heist. The film is mostly fun but a bit messy at times. 6/10
Zola (2021, Janicza Bravo) This story of a stripper named Zola who embarks on a wild road trip to Florida is based on a twitter thread by the main character. The characters might be too annoying for some to get into the story and they tested my patience for sure. 6/10
Joe Kidd (1972, John Sturges) All the pieces are in place for a good western, even with fabled western director John Sturges at the helm but this one just does not work for the most part. 5/10
REPEAT MOVIE VIEWING
Adaptation (2002, Spike Jonze) blu ray Charlie Kaufman was tasked with adapting the book The Orchid Thief into a screenplay. In his desperation he wrote himself into the story and the result is a wild entertaining ride. 8/10
The American (2010, Anton Corbijn) blu ray A great brooding film about an assassin in hiding in a small village in Italy. Stunning to look at and well acted. 8/10
Match Point (2005, Woody Allen) blu ray Good serious film set in London about the love lives of some elites and their tennis coach. 7/10
The Rocketeer (1991, Joe Johnston) blu ray Good super hero film set in Hollywood during the rise of the Nazi's in europe. 7/10
Hang 'em High (1968, Ted Post) This was Clint Eastwood's first starring role in a Hollywood movies and also perhaps the first American attempt to ape the Spaghetti Western style. 7/10
FIRST TIME TV VIEWING
Departure (2019, Season One) TV Cheaply made show with a lot of holes but mores fast enough to be entertaining and has some good characters. Good TV

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot - 4/10 The American - 3/10 The Rocketeer - 7/10 Mine: Zach Snyders Justice League (2021) - 10/10Seen this once already. I planed to watch a little bit of it again and ended up watching the whole 4 hour film. Easily one of the best superhero films ever made and my favorite film of '21. Saw (2004) - 9/10Great and well made horror film that started never ending series. Singapore Sling (1990) - 2/10Bizarre as hell and mostly dumb film about a man abducted by a crazy mother daughter team. Sexual oddities are done to him. Rampage (2018) - 5/10Ape grows big and fights other big creatures. Basic big budget blockbuster. Promising Young Woman (2020) - 3/10So many people liked this film. I cant say I liked it much aside from Carey Mulligans great performance. Night Walk (2021) - 3/10Eric Roberts and Micky Rourke star in this prison film. Nothing special. The Green Elephant (1999) - 2/10One of the grossest films I have ever seen. Extremely disturbing story of prisoners in a Russian prison. Nasty stuff happens. City of Lies (2018) - 3/10
Surprisingly dull story of the murder of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Best Film this week: Worst Film this Week:

First Time Viewing
Nothing this week
Repeat Viewing
Sneakers (1992; Phil Alden Robinson) - An article on crimereads made me want to revisit this 90s conspiracy/heist thriller. It's light-hearted fun with the great cast elevating the sometimes mediocre material. 7/10

First Time Viewing Nothing this week Repeat Viewing Sneakers (1992; Phil Alden Robinson) - An article on crimereads made me want to revisit this 90s conspiracy/heist thriller. It's light-hearted fun with the great cast elevating the sometimes mediocre material. 7/10 Yeah I’ve always liked Sneakers, might be time for a revisit
