Have not visited/replied in these threads for a long while now. Will be trying to catch up, a bit more often from now on.
September 20 - 26: Total of 12 films seen this week
20 Living to Die (1990) - 4/10 - First Time Watch
21 Journal 64 aka The Purity of Vengeance (2018) - 6/10 - First Time Watch Running Red (1998) - 3/10 - First Time Watch
22 Operation Delta Force 4: Deep Fault (1999) - 4/10 - First Time Watch
23 Bedroom Eyes II (1990) - 4/10 - First Time Watch
24 Point Break (1991) - 7/10 - Re-Watch Airplane II: The Sequel (1982) - 5/10 - Re-Watch
25 Black Dog (1998) - 6/10 - First Time Watch Batman vs. Dracula (2005) - 8/10 - First Time Watch
26 TMNT (2007) - 6,5/10 - Re-Watch Looking Glass (2018) - 5/10 - First Time Watch Jägarna 2 aka False Trail (2011) - 6/10 - Re-Watch
Best film that I have seen this week: Batman vs. Dracula (2005) Worst film that I have seen this week: Running Red (1998) Most forgettable film that I have seen this week: Operation Delta Force 4: Deep Fault (1999) Most pleasant surprising film that I have seen this week: Batman vs. Dracula (2005) Most disappointing film that I have seen this week: None really Best actor this week: None Best Supporting actor this week: None Worst actor this week: Probably a few Hottest movie babe this week: None Best movie director this week: None Best movie score or soundtrack: None
Not a very great week of films, but at least I got to finally see Batman vs. Dracula, which I was having a lot of fun, watching. Sure, it is not quite on the same quality or level (neither in animation nor plot) as the far better Animated Series of the early 90s, but I kind of fast got used to the differences in voices and facial changes, even though it looked kind of lazy in some parts. But the pace, atmosphere and over all story managed to entertain me, all the way through.
Got through a couple of more sleazy b-movie Wings Hauser late 80s and early 90s releases, where Bedroom Eyes Part II opened up like it was straight out of some random Christmas movie, of course that was until Hauser arrived, and we soon got a few too many ridiculously and very over the top cheesy sex scenes. Would have enjoyed more of Linda Blair, but she soon departed for good, and yeah, okay for sleazy late night "entertainment", but nothing more.
Re-watched TMNT again. I so much wanted to love it, back in winter of 2007. Seen it now 3 times, and it still do not get beyond a very kind 6,5/10. Kind of sad, we did not get a sequel/follow up, as it was clearly hinted, that big things were arriving (if that had happened), but I guess it just did not make enough money, to keep the moneymen satisfied, and the years went on, and we got, well, a new set of Turtles films, and yeah, it was pretty much the end of my interest for modern Turtles movies.

FIRST TIME MOVIE VIEWING Pale Rider (1985, Clint Eastwood)
A really good western directed by and starring Clint Eastwood that I had thought I had seen and I had seen parts of it for sure but I had thought it was a different kind of film more like Silverado. It was however a much more serious film that feels like a partner film with High Plains Drifter in many ways. 7.5/10 Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970, Don Siegel)
I had seen the last half of the shorter version of this film before but this is the first time I have seen it from start to finish and it being the longer version. From what I can tell, I think I would prefer the shorter version of this as the middle section of this film is a little dull. This is an American attempt at a spaghetti western and although it has its moments it does not compare to the genius of the best Sergio Leone films. The score from Morricone is great though and the film is worth checking out. 7/10 The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976, Clint Eastwood)
This was my second attempt at this film as I did not care for it the last time I tried to watch it and bailed early. I did not care for the beginning again but the film does get better as it goes along and by the time he gets his Native American travelling companion it really picks up. 6.5/10 Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974, Michael Cimino)
With the help of an irreverent young sidekick (Jeff Bridges), a bank robber (Clint Eastwood) gets his old gang back together to organize a daring new heist. The film is mostly fun but a bit messy at times. 6/10 Zola (2021, Janicza Bravo)
This story of a stripper named Zola who embarks on a wild road trip to Florida is based on a twitter thread by the main character. The characters might be too annoying for some to get into the story and they tested my patience for sure. 6/10 Joe Kidd (1972, John Sturges)
All the pieces are in place for a good western, even with fabled western director John Sturges at the helm but this one just does not work for the most part. 5/10 REPEAT MOVIE VIEWING Adaptation (2002, Spike Jonze) blu ray
Charlie Kaufman was tasked with adapting the book The Orchid Thief into a screenplay. In his desperation he wrote himself into the story and the result is a wild entertaining ride. 8/10 The American (2010, Anton Corbijn) blu ray
A great brooding film about an assassin in hiding in a small village in Italy. Stunning to look at and well acted. 8/10 Match Point (2005, Woody Allen) blu ray
Good serious film set in London about the love lives of some elites and their tennis coach. 7/10 The Rocketeer (1991, Joe Johnston) blu ray
Good super hero film set in Hollywood during the rise of the Nazi's in europe. 7/10 Hang 'em High (1968, Ted Post)
This was Clint Eastwood's first starring role in a Hollywood movies and also perhaps the first American attempt to ape the Spaghetti Western style. 7/10 Hey there, Darkside. Not been contributing to your threads for a long while now, but I have often been wanting to get back in touch with them. Will try to keep up, throughout the fall of this year. Might be a bit hectic, due to the upcoming Horror Challenge next month. Anyway. Of the films I have seen and rated, from the ones you have listed above: Pale Rider (1985) You know, I have seen it, several times as a kid, but it has been so long since I last saw it, that neither my Letterboxd account nor my old IMDb account has it registered with a vote/rating. I guess this means, I should probably give another shot, as I do not like to rate films, that I have not seen for maybe more than 15-20 years. Things sure change, and that means also how I felt about certain films. I know I really liked it, but as of now, I am not sure where it would lie. Yeah, I just skip this one for now. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) - 4/10 A film I just did not like all that much. Seen it only once, and looking back, that was through a pretty hectical time. I saw lots of films, and it just felt like I was seeing them, to get through with them, and then onto the next. Not sure if I will ever re-watch it, as I remember it came along in a Eastwood boxset, and only about 2-3 out of the 8-10 films where among those I liked, not loved, just above average rating kind of entertainment. Adaption (2002) - 6/10 Another film, I know I saw, years ago. But not much else than that. Might be one to consider another visit, when I feel the motivation is there. The American (2010) - 6/10 I saw this earlier this year. Started up promisingly, but somewhere out, I just lost interest. Shame, cause there was some really fine scenes and liked the city and use of location, but the story and characters left me with not much to care for. The Rocketeer (1991) - 3/10 Wow, that was a pretty negative rating. Well, I guess there is a reason to that. But yeah, many years since I last saw it. Only remember how stunning Jennifer Connelly looked, but not much else. The film itself, I remember seeing quite frequently lying around with The Shadow (1994) and The Phantom (1996) in a shopping mall, where I lived as a kid. They looked rather promising, but I think The Shadow was the one I enjoyed the most, out of these 1930s-40s adventure/comic book movies, which I guess just did not became that huge as many had hoped for, but several seems to have gained quite a cult following. Have plans, of re-watching The Phantom later this year, might do another one with The Rocketeer as well. Hang 'Em High (1968) - 4/10 Another Clint Eastwood film (I believe this also came with the boxset I was mentioning earlier) and, yeah. I did not like it, seemingly.

First Time Viewings:Waltz with Bashir (2008, Ari Folman - 7.5/10The Grudge (2004, Takashi Shimizu) - 6/10Willard (1971, Daniel Mann) - 7/10Crimson Peak (2015, Guillermo del Toro) - 6.5/10Mimic (1997, Guillermo del Toro) - 7/10Fright Night (2011, Craig Gillespie) - 6/10Cabaret (1972, Bob Fosse) - 7/10Persepolis (2007, Vincent Paronnaud & Marjane Satrapi) - 7.5/10Scanners (1981, David Cronenberg) - 6.5/10Outbreak (1995, Wolfgang Petersen) - 6.5/10Repeat Viewings:El Mariachi (1992, Robert Rodriguez) - 7/10Desperado (1995, Robert Rodriguez) - 7.5/10Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003, Robert Rodriguez) - 7/10Pleasantville (1998, Gary Ross) - 8.5/10Primal Fear (1996, Gregory Hoblit) - 8/102046 (2004, Wong Kar-wai) - 7.5/10 Hi there jcush. Out of the films you have seen and rated for the past week, the ones I have been through are: The Grudge (2004) - 6/10 I do not think I will re-watch it, anytime soon. But I kind of enjoyed it. Of course, it sure did help, having "Buffy" (Sarah Michelle Gellar) in the lead. Mimic (1997) - 6,5/10 I have seen this, at least a couple of times. Always loved the monster/creature and the whole build up, until it is revealed, as well as the atmosphere. But everytime, something goes a little "wrong" down the road, and I just cannot seem to go beyond the rating of 6,5/10. But it is still very close to a 7/10. I also saw the two sequels, which I think both hit the DTV market a while after. But none of them reached the same quality or entertainment as the first one, even though (I think the third) had a bit of the Rear Window approach in style and plot, which was a surprise. Fright Night (2011) - 5/10 Well, I love the original, so I kind of went in, almost "expecting" this updated one, to be, well, not all that much. And it turned out to be, quite better, or less worse, than what I thought it would be. Scanners (1981) - 7/10 I have seen and enjoyed this, a few times over. But yeah, not up there with David Cronenberg's finest sci-fi/horror releases of that era, but still it is quite chilling and unsettling in parts, and I guess much have to do with Michael Ironside's fantastic performance, and the music of Howard Shore. The sequels are not all that terrible, but not surprisingly, they move a lot faster, more focus on special effects and gore in the later ones, and there also came a few spin-offs, which I think were titled Scanner Cop during the mid 90s. Outbreak (1995) - 5/10 Another one of these films with a solid cast, and premise. But I just could never really get into it, not bad, just kind of forgettable stuff. El Mariachi (1992) - 6,5/10 Desperado (1995) - 7/10 Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003) - 6/10 I saw these films a few years back. Never really loved any of them, as much as I had hoped. But Desperado I have kept in my collection, for maybe another round, when I am in the right mood for that kind of entertainment. Pleasantville (1998) - 5/10 Years since I saw, and do not remember much from it. Primal Fear (1996) - 7/10 Saw it back in 2017, and really enjoyed it. But felt it was one of those, which might benefit from a second viewing.

MINEDeath Wish II (1982 Michael Winner) - 5.5/10
Shark Exorcist (2015 Donald Farmer) - 1/10Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999 Michael Patrick Jann) - 7.5/10Supernova (2020 Harry Macqueen) - 7/10Appointment with Death (1988 Michael Winner) - 5/10One Night of Love (1934 Victor Schertzinger) - 6.5/10The Tomorrow War (2021 Chris McKay) - 6.5/10Loverboy (1988 Joan Micklin Silver) - 7/10Eyes of Laura Mars (1978 Irvin Kershner) - 7/10Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021 Sion Sono) - 5/10 Hi moviemouth, out of the ones you have seen last week, mine would be: Death Wish II (1982) - 5/10 I always felt this one, were just a bit too vulgar and nasty, in tone and "plot". Like they just threw in one poor excuse to include as many rapes as possible, and where you end with having the shock factor, almost wiped out, and where by the third film, it became an overblown parody (which I somehow loved). But the second one, I just so much wanted to enjoy as the first and third film, but yeah. Another one, that I have not seen since, well, far too long. And who knows, maybe it will work better the next time. Anyway, it did start up the successful Cannon video era for Bronson, where he was re-introduced as one of the meanest and most bad ass guys in the world of sleazy and violent b-movie cinema, and must have killed at least a couple of hundred gang members and bad guys over the next decade, or more.

Mine: Zach Snyders Justice League (2021) - 10/10Seen this once already. I planed to watch a little bit of it again and ended up watching the whole 4 hour film. Easily one of the best superhero films ever made and my favorite film of '21. Saw (2004) - 9/10Great and well made horror film that started never ending series. Singapore Sling (1990) - 2/10Bizarre as hell and mostly dumb film about a man abducted by a crazy mother daughter team. Sexual oddities are done to him. Rampage (2018) - 5/10Ape grows big and fights other big creatures. Basic big budget blockbuster. Promising Young Woman (2020) - 3/10So many people liked this film. I cant say I liked it much aside from Carey Mulligans great performance. Night Walk (2021) - 3/10Eric Roberts and Micky Rourke star in this prison film. Nothing special. The Green Elephant (1999) - 2/10One of the grossest films I have ever seen. Extremely disturbing story of prisoners in a Russian prison. Nasty stuff happens. City of Lies (2018) - 3/10
Surprisingly dull story of the murder of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. Hi Friday. I have only seen the 2017 cut, of Justice League. And looking back at my rating of 3/10, I guess I am still kind of sitting on the fence, not knowing if I should move on, a see this updated version, or just leave it be. Saw (2004) - 6/10 The only one of the franchise I have seen, and quite enjoyed. Or at least that is how I think it is. Might have seen some scenes or parts from another one, but that is at least a decade since.

Out of the films you have seen as of lately, and the ones I have seen/rated, I end up with: Frailty (2001) - 6,5/10 I got this through some random DVD boxset, years ago. Very poorly promoted artwork. Made it look out to be some kind of a "black comedy", of some sorts. Of course, it turned out to be not exactly that, and I think I might have enjoyed it more, on a second go. Nightcrawler (2014) - 7/10 Another one, that might benefit from a second view. Rebel Without a Clause, I have still not seen. But I do have it lying around, somewhere on DVD.

Repeat Viewing Sneakers (1992; Phil Alden Robinson) - An article on crimereads made me want to revisit this 90s conspiracy/heist thriller. It's light-hearted fun with the great cast elevating the sometimes mediocre material. 7/10 Hey Raven. I remember I saw your recently purchased German Blu-ray (or so I believe it was) of Sneakers. Yeah, I also gave it a 7/10, or 7,5/10 (not sure) but I did like it, much thanks to the likeable and lively cast, and the feel good vibe it had going on.

I think it's the best since the 1990 film and way better than the Bay-produced films. Should give it a rewatch though since it's been a while.

Hi and welcome Point Break (1991) - 7/10 - Been quite a while since I saw this but I remember it being well made and fun. Airplane II: The Sequel (1982) - 6/10 a retread if the original, re-using a lot of gags but the addition of William Shatner was good. Black Dog (1998) - 5.5/10 - I saw this when it came out and don’t remember too well. Not sure how it would fare today. TMNT (2007) - 5/10 I didn’t think this was too great but not bad either.. far better than the more recent live action ones which I couldn’t even finish.

I never saw any DVD cover of Frailty that made it look like a black comedy. I always saw them using the original poster artwork which looked pretty serious. That is the sad problem, with far too many VHS/DVDs put out back in the late 90s or early 00s. As I am not sure how many original artwork/movie posters, that got a bit of a "makeover", and which seemed to take a once serious or scary film, then turn it into something, well, very different. Sometimes, this could actually be a pleasant or very nice surprise. Take the fella in your avatar, he sure made quite a few appearances on several nordic/Scandinavian DVD/VHS releases of Halloween III: Season of the Witch, but was of course, nowhere near to be seen in the film (beside a little cameo). I even found copies, containing an oversized image of Jamie Lee Curtis, on the backside cover as well. But I guess those behind these poor/lousy re-done artworks, rarely bother to care at all. Anyway, I turned out to love Season of the Witch, but I can understand how many fans of the franchise might feel cheated, when realizing Myers and Curtis were not gonna show up. TMNT - 7.5/10. I always liked this movie since childhood. Sadly, not many people talk about it and those who do they usually say they don't like it. I think it's the best since the 1990 film and way better than the Bay-produced films. Should give it a rewatch though since it's been a while. The funny thing about the TMNT (2007) version. Is that back when it came out, I remember it had far better ratings and reviews (for a long while) than the original 1990 movie. The original IMDb board also had lots of people suddenly taking shots at the 90s version, and how the 2007 supposedly was the superior movie. Anyway, I was just glad we finally got a new Turtles movie, after so many years of waiting, and not knowing what might happen. Sadly, well, we do know what came up next, afterwards, but I will always have a naive hope, that another good or maybe even better Turtles movie might be in the making. Speaking of Turtles movie, even if this one is probably more of a DTV release, and could easily be called a Batman film. I did sure dig the Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 2019. That was a lot of fun, and I felt it caught on with much of the charm and brotherly tone/chemistry that the first films (and the 2007) had so much of. Also, Shredder in that movie, was a true bad ass.

I love the line from Gary Busey in Point Break, about being so hungry, that he could have eaten a rhino's buttocks. Yeah, the action scenes were pure adrenaline, specially the heist part, or when Johnny Utah and his undercover team, is storming a small house, full of scumbags (hilarious to see Anthony Kiedis as a nazi-surfer dude, getting his ass kicked all over the place). Black Dog I just recently found out about. It looked like a fun adventure, and while surely not something spectacular, it did contain a lively cast, likeable people and some great action and car chases, as well as Meat Loaf going completely bonkers, here and there. Kind of sad, that Patrick Swayze did not do far more action films back then. I really enjoyed his work in films like Roadhouse, Next of Kin, Red Dawn, Steel Dawn and of course Point Break.

The new Justice League is a whole new film. Best to forget the 2017 cut. This one is incredible. Far more of a emotional journey and far better character development. Fastest 4 hours of my life.

At least our releases kept it honest. I still need to check out Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, heard some good things so I'm hoping it's a lot of fun.

Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film.
7/10 FIRST TIME TV VIEWING Departure (2019, Season One) TVCheaply made show with a lot of holes but mores fast enough to be entertaining and has some good characters. Good TV WEEKLY FILM AWARDSBEST FILM: Adaptation BEST ACTOR: Nicolas Cage - Adaptation BEST ACTRESS: Meryl Streep - Adaptation BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Alan Arkin - The Rocketeer BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Scarlet Johansson - Match Point BEST EDITING: Eric Zumbrunnen - Adaptation BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Martin Ruhe - The American BEST SCORE: Ennio Morricone - Two Mules for Sister Sara BEST SCRIPT: Charlie Kaufman - Adaptation BEST DIRECTOR: Spike Jonze - Adaptation 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive too Hi, Dark. You had a Clint week. Yours: Pale Rider 8.5/10 Love it. Love the atmosphere. I loved the supernatural vibe about Clint's character. It's not really spelled out, but it's pretty clear, IMO.[/span] I think I saw Two Mules for Sister Sara, or at least part of it, but I don't remember it well. The Outlaw Josey wales 10/10 Masterpiece, IMO. It's one of my favourite Clint's movies actually. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot 9/10 Love it. Love the atmosphere, and the whole vibe. I really love the ending. Very sad. The American 8/10 Yep, I liked it. Loved the cast too. Match Point 9/10 Love it. It's really underrated, IMO. I thought Scarlett Johansson was fantastic in it. The Rocketeer 8/10 I like it, it's fun. Loved Timothy Dalton in it. Hang 'em High 7.5710 Saw it a while ago. I remember enjoying it. Mine: Inglorious Basterds 9/10 Quentin Tarantino movie. Love it, it's so great, it holds up perfectly. Christoph Waltz and Melanie Laurent are truly great. Loved Michael Fassbender and Diane Kruger too. Gilda 8/10 The movie with Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford. I like it. It gets a bit over the top for me, in the second half. I still like it though. Rita Hayworth was fantastic. Never on Sunday 8/10 It's a Jules Dassin movie with Melina Mercouri, it's about a Greek prostitute, who's kind of a legend and loved by everyboy in her neighbourhood, and she meets an American philosopher, who convinces himself he has to save her form her life. It's a comedy, I like it, it's funny, quite sensual. Jules Dassin plays the American guy himself, I actually didn't know he acted too. Melina Mercouri is really good. Loved the score as well.

Re- pale rider - yup supernatural for sure that’s why I linked it with high plains drifter in my review re- outlaw Josey Wales- yeah I know it’s one of clints faves of his own work. I just did not like the first half much but really enjoyed the second half. I have a clean sweep of yours this week Inglorious Basterds - I found this a real return to top form for Tarantino and rank it up with pulp fiction as his best 9/10 Gilda - definitely goes over the top but still good 6.5 Never on Sunday - a bit different from the other Dawson films I’ve seen but it was fun for sure 6.5
