Bringing back the Raimiverse characters is a huge deal. Most fans seem to be incredibly excited for it, myself included. I will fanboy out when Toby appears in the next trailer.
But… the Garfield characters? The series had its fans, but it was, objectively speaking, a failure. And seeing Garfield and his villains return will pale in comparison to seeing the Raimi ones. There’s a reason DC is bringing Burton back alone and not with Val Kilmer. This is very much analogous to that.
Then… Hardy’s Venom? I don’t think he is really in it, but if he is it will be forced and awkward. And let’s be honest, more fans hate/don’t even care about that series than watch/like it. And it would be ANOTHER Spidey 3 with a shoe horned Venom. That’s just pathetic.
So… what SHOULD they have done? Simple. The Raimiverse alone brings in Tobey’s Spidey, Goblin, Ock and Sandman. The other three Sinister Six villains come from Holland’s movies! Vulture, Mysterio and Scorpion. This way we A) Get the rush of nostalgic awesomeness of seeing our beloved Raimi characters again. B) Actually get a pay off for this current series and it’s build up of villains. And C) We get none of the mediocre characters from the failed past and current Sony movies.
The final battle would then be two beloved Spidermen against 6 villains from their respective universes instead of two beloved Spidermen, one mediocre forgotten Spider-Man against 3 iconic villains and three polarizing ones.
I feel like they really missed a perfect option here.

I'm fine with Andrew Garfield Spider-Man being part of a Spider-Verse.
I just feel like there should be more variety in the Spider-Man variants, like there was in the animated films.
While it's cool to have Tom, Andrew and Toby together as Spider-Mem, imagine if we got different live action versions of Spidey like Noire, 2099 and Gwen.
