Jim is in Michael Mann’s Thief which is excellent. John never had a chance to star in anything that good.
But then for many years Jim was the straight-to-video guy. He obviously predicted the rise of covid thirty years later and knew that home media was the way to go.

I like Jim Belushi better, but John is more talented. I could break it down in a million ways but this pretty much sums it up. However, I don't think John Belushi had the opportunity to grow as an actor like his brother did. At the same time, I don't know if John Belushi ever wanted to grow up during the time he was at his prime. John's party life was uncontrollable, which you can blame the 70s mostly for. Also, his acting was a little out of hand, downright dangerous. It's crazy how parallel John's life was to the future 90s actor Chris Farley.I remember watching John's movie "1941" and completely forgetting about it. Then of course, "Animal House" you can't forget about especially for him. Same with "The Blues Brothers." But then he made the movie "Neighbors" and it's mostly something you forget about. I don't think he ever showed his emotional side in his films, unlike Chris Farley within several of his last films. By emotional side, I mean softness, connection with feelings. We'll never know what John Belushi would have become, sadly.
I think Jim Belushi did do a string of movies in the early 90s that basically did nothing for his career. Before that, he was a pretty solid actor with that comedic-ass-holish man's man act. In the 80s, if you watch Jim in the movie, "About Last Night" starring opposite of Rob Lowe, you see his best friend onscreen charisma shine (Jim's early best movie I think). When you watch "Real Men" you see his suave humor with comedian John Ritter be full with chemistry. When you watch him in the action movie "Red Heat" he holds up as good-cop/bad-cop pretty dang good with actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. And I even liked Belushi in the 1990 movie "Mr. Destiny" as the over-the-top, eccentric, funny husband who questions his life very "It's a Wonderful Life" style; starring opposite of Linda Hamilton. Sadly, the 90's didn't do much for Jim I want to say until movies like "Retroactive" and "Gang Related" (opposite the late Tupac Shakur). Jim can play bad guys pretty good, in a way I can't imagine his brother John ever playing. Belushi since has been all over the place up and down, but over the decades he certainly created a career for himself (however you want to look at it). He had so many good small roles, too; so many. For a long time growing up, I actually believed Jim Belushi was older than John Belushi; for how much more mature Jim came across in all of his roles. I think that was the biggest difference between both brothers. In 2020, Jim Belushi posted a black & white photo of his brother John who is smoking in the photo, stating, "If my brother John was a pot head, he'd still be here today." Jim went onto to write that he believes his older brother suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) as a result of playing football in high school; John was a co-captain and all-conference middle linebacker. Jim still misses John till this day. (:
