Paganism has had a profound impact on my life, not just in terms of spirituality, but in all the other things that it inspired me to explore. I got very interested in history, from my own personal family history, to human history and prehistory dating back for many thousands of years. I did pagan pilgrimages to Neolithic sites like in Stonehenge and Newgrange and stone circles, I went to the Pyramids and ancient temples in Egypt, and I visited pagan temples (ruins) in Greece and Jordan. I got very interested in historical foods and traditional recipes from other cultures. I delved into botany, learning the names of all the local trees and wildflowers, gardening, growing herbs and propagating plants. I learned about astronomy, following the lunar and solar eclipses, meteor showers, the northern lights, and observing the solstices and equinoxes. It sparked an interest in art, photography and writing, and rekindled my interest in music and languages. It's touched almost every aspect of my life. It's pretty amazing, actually.
For me, Nature is a bit of a paradox. I feel most spiritual when my feet are firmly planted on the ground, and then I can reach for the stars. Paganism makes me cherish life. I appreciate the small things, and think more about the world around me, rather than fixating too much on myself. However, I do consider myself to be a lapsed pagan, because it's been years since I practice my spirituality. Maybe one of these days, I'll finally start walking the path again.
