Yup. It wasn't perfect but it was a big step up from Prometheus

While I don't consider it a good movie, I like it more than I don't. Meaning that the good slightly outweighs the bad.

Just saw it. It was interesting, but like "Prometheus" I had this "wait, go back to that, what the hell was that?" feeling...they glossed over some stuff I thought could have been really interesting. Don't want to spoil it for anyone, but the elements that carried over from "Prometheus" could have been a little more fleshed out.
I thought the action was pretty good, and found the horror elements to be tasteful. Some gore, but not ridiculous gore.
They explore some interesting elements here, like how one might weaponize the xenomorphs. Only a handful of characters are interesting though. Danny McBride (I loved "Eastbound and Down") pleasantly surprised me in his role. He seemed real. Fassbender absolutely killed it. He's got a lot on his plate in his job in this movie and I thought we was great. By far my favorite part of the movie. The art direction was interesting too...at times it seemed the most like Giger's work since "Alien" and parts of "Prometheus."
What I found lacking was the lead actress, Katherine Waterston. Something about it wasn't right for me...she was somehow not tough or vulnerable to me. Sigourney Weaver created such an iconic character that it's hard not to draw a comparison between her and Waterston's performances. Ripley is hard to outshine. I like Waterston in other stuff, but here, even down to the clothes, she was like a store-brand Ripley.
Also, while there are some cool moments with the alien in this movie, I miss the puppets and practical effects. I think the CGI is good, and allows the creature to move fast, but I miss the close-up shots of the head, it walking upright with a human gait (the CGI scene of it walking upright is...alright, but it lacks the creepiness of how they did it back in the day).
Also if you're a fan of the inner-mouth kill, you may not get your jollies from this one.
All in all, I liked it. I'm used to being let down by this franchise (liked the first 3 and Prometheus) since the Predators got involved (I like them on their own too), so I went in with neutral expectations and came out happy. Real sticklers may have more than a handful of problems with this movie, but as a long-time fan of the franchise, I found a lot to enjoy here.

No, not really.
Far too much Prometheus influence for my liking. The film came across to me as "hey, here'a Prometheus sequel but let's call it Alien and plaster some stuff from Alien over it to try and coax more people into the theatres to watch it.
A cinematic trick, or so it felt to me. I was displeased pretty much from the opening scene, and though we got a bit of Xenomorph action they even crapped on that noble beast with the surprise reveal.
Plus, it has the most blatantly telegraphed "twist" ending I've ever seen in a movie.

SPOILERS Below!I believe that it's only really a twist in a movie if it is first intentionally hidden by the makers of that movie. When it comes to " ALIEN: COVENANT", they didn't at all try to hide the fact that Walter was really David. They hinted at it a couple of different times well before the end when Daniels realized it was him. If they had wanted to make 'Walter really being David' a twist then they wouldn't have put the hints in there.

Wow! These are some really underwhelming "recommendations". Sounds like a wait for a decent free streaming version movie.
