courtroom drama/thriller about a man played by Jeff Bridges accused of brutally killing his wife and hiring a female lawyer played by Glenn Close to defend him. She falls for him but the question of whether he did it or not plays throughout the entire movie. The movie is written by Joe Esterhas who would go on to hit it big with Basic Instinct but fall off the map with bombs like Sliver and Showgirls. The script for this movie is honestly pretty bad. Glenn Close's character is a total idiot who gets sexually involved with a client, acts hysterical, and thinks she can tie someone to a crime because he used the word "bitch". The trial procedure is also laughable with constant surprise witnesses and hearsay, Close just able to go and meet with the judge at his house, and the prosecution thinking they have a slam dunk case relied solely on sloppily researched circumstantial evidence. And then we have the absolute stupid mistake the killer made at the end which allows him to be caught. And there are just some other things that as soon as you think about don't make any sense. Still despite all that the film still works thanks to strong performances. Jeff Bridges natural likable charisma is put to good use here since we don't want to believe he could be a killer but he does keep us guessing and I especially liked Peter Coyote as the prosecutor. Though the romance between Close and Bridges is rushed and they have zero chemistry. Film is also well shot and has a nice score by legendary composer John Barry. Jagged Edge is a weak script that is made watchable thanks to the people in front of and behind the camera. It is an example of a dumb film that is disguised as a smart one

I love it. My 3rd favorite movie from 1985.

Remember liking it when it was new, but it's been ages since I watched it.

I can't help but to think the Phil Collins song from Bridges's prior movie Against All Odds is also in this movie.

5/10. Couldn't get into it as much as I wanted but the acting is pretty good.

I remember Jagged Edge being one of the most talked about movies of its year and many people liked it, myself included. Yes, it is flawed but still a very engrossing courtroom thriller that is well played out, with top performances and great suspense. The grand finale in particular has unbearable tension.

I remember it being a poor thriller with an utter whimper of an ending. He shows up, she shoots him. THE END.
Its Hindi remake Kasoor has a longer, slasher-style climax. For that reason alone I think a little better of it.

Good cast - Bridges can do no wrong, virtually, solid thriller. I haven’t watched it since the late 80s or early 90s, mind.

I remember it being alright.
Still, for murder/mystery with Close (even if she had a lesser role overall) I found Reversal of Fortune (1990) to be much better.
