*dislike. I am posting on my iPad which corrected Matz to Maltz and it seemed fitting. Henceforth, that is his name! Mine rhymed! Who's going to be your DH? Dominic Smith? Are you signing Kershaw next? Assuming there is a DH, I’d imagine that Smith and JD Davis would slot in there and as the first man off the bench. Smith was AWFUL last year but he does have a good bat. He’s a proto DH. Davis is just a good hitter, plain and simple. Good eye, strong approach and plate coverage, good power to all fields, it’s a shame that he has hands of stone.

Dollars never bother me as much as years. Scherzer is showing no signs of slowing down but if he falls apart, at least this is a short deal. Cohen can afford it so dollars never worry me either. 3 years for a 37 year old is concerning but if anything maybe it hurts in that last year. I don't see him going from a top dog to a bum in 2 years. Pitchers can fall apart from one season to another. Look at Pedro after his first year with the Mets. And he was three years younger than Max. But I can't see anything wrong with a three year deal. I was betting some dumbass GM would have given him five.
$43,300,000 a year. My arm would disintegrate if I had to write paychecks like that, I don't care how much money I have. I always thought it would be fun to go back in time and show guys like Walter Johnson (top yearly salary, $20,000) or Lefty Grove (top yearly salary, $45,000) how much a pitcher can make in the future. $45,000 was a shitload of cash in 1934, but still...

They can. It's a risk I would take here for 3 years. Plus, Pedro was a much smaller guy. Surprised his arm held together for as long as it did. I agree that I thought someone would give him a longer deal. 3 is the max where I'd feel comfortable.

Robbie Ray back to the Blue Jays, Corey Seager to the Rangers. Hot Stove baby!
Edit - sorry, Ray to the Mariners, not Toronto.

The Dodgers outbid by the Rangers. Wow
Everything getting done before the lockout

I missed the Rangers signing Rockies pitcher Jon Gray. He hasn't been all that but his numbers could improve a lot by getting out of the thin air of Denver.

Dodgers tender contracts to Julio UrÃas, Cody Bellinger, Trea Turner and Caleb Ferguson. Only left-handed reliever Andrew Vasquez, who was picked up Aug remains arbitration-eligible.

klawrencio79 - who's going to play second for you now? I was assuming they were keeping Baez.

At the last minute before the Lockout, the Red Sox trade Hunter Renfroe to the Brewers for two prospects and ...
Jackie Bradley, Jr !?!
He of the .163 batting average? His weak bat never used to trouble me that much. The sox in 2018 didn't need another .300 hitter and JBJ saved as many runs as as he didn't deliver. But the 2022 Sox aren't the 2018 Sox and JBJ is slowing. Odd trade. They also signed Rich Hill and James Paxson.

I'd take him in RF, especially so cheaply, but to our divisional rivals! Fuck.

A pair of old-timers committees corrected previous "snubs," electing Buck O’Neil, Gil Hodges, Minnie Miñoso, Tony Oliva, Jim Kaat and Bud Fowler.
