So disappointed in how Dexter ended. To me, it really fell apart after the Doomsday Killer and Deb's discovery. But I will watch.

And if the "ghosts" of Deb and Arthur Mitchell will be too silly. Harry Morgan worked well because the "Harry Ghost" wasn't overdone. I can see them getting too cute with Deb and especially Trinity. Will Arthur/Trinity be a positive or a demon "Ha ha, I killed Rita and fucked up your entire life! You probably wouldn't have been Lumberjack Dex if I hadn't got into the tub with your woman!"

I actually never liked the ghost Harry either. It always felt silly to me. He wasn’t there until season three and the show never really needed him before that. It was just a way to keep his father around after the flashbacks were played out. My issue with Deb as a ghost is that I can’t create my own canon where seasons 5-8 don’t exist. They’ll likely acknowledge the fact that she’s dead.

It still feels unreal to me that the show is returning. I don't think it'll hit me until it actually premieres. I've missed it so much. I'm holding off reading any reviews until it actually premieres. I wanna go in fresh.

I’m tempted to rejoin Reddit to discuss this but I really hate it there.

It's only back for the one season, right? Just trying to make a new ending and sweep some of the stink off from the original horrid ending.
So what did everyone think?
I spoiled myself on Harrison just before watching by looking at the cast list.
I wasn't expecting his first kill to come so soon. He couldn't have picked a bigger profile target.
I was rooting for Jim Lindsay up until that point, too.
Julia Jones is smoking as Angela.
I don't really care about anyone else.

They’ve been super vague about it. They haven’t confirmed one way or another, but based off the way they’ve talked it seems like they plan on the finale being a true ending. A lot of the stuff from the premiere was spoiled in the trailers like Harrison and Deb. The lack of Dexter’s narration definitely bothered me. That was such a key part of the original series. I kinda get what they were going for. I hope it’s back more regularly in episode 2 on. The setting also threw me some. It’s gonna take me a while to get used to Dexter not living in Miami. Overall tho I enjoyed it. Despite being different I think it was still true to Dexter. His struggle and the way he looks at the world was all still there. I’m looking forward to more.

I really missed the narration too, but I’m pretty sure it’s back now for good. It’s kind of clever how it only returns once he’s Dexter again. But it would’ve really helped the previous 45 minutes to use it from the get go.

Pretty good episode. Not season 1-4 good yet, but good. So surreal seeing Dexter back. I expected them to delay his first kill, but there it is. They really pulled out the old trick of making the victim a super douche, which made it all a bit too predictable. I knew he’d shoot the deer the second Dexter walked over to him.
The only thing I really didn’t like was the muted color grading. But I’ll get used to it.

The setting became like a character itself. I'm not against this setting, but it'd definitely gonna take a minute to get used to. I get what they were going for with the lack of narration. I think they wanted to show how disconnected he felt. But I still missed it a lot. I half expected the intro to be like a catch up with Dexter in his mind. It might have been better though that the writers avoided that. Easier to avoid too many cliches and not to harp on nostalgia.

It just wasn’t the same without it. Dexter’s inner conflict can absolutely be sold with the brilliant acting of Hall, but the voice over adds so much personality and dark humor to the show.

Should would expect the ending to be Clyde Phillips original vision for the shows ending?
