Just watched one called Grave Halloween. Basically sucked and the Halloween element of it is pretty much pointless. It's about American students in Japan going into the famed 'suicide forest' on Mount Fuji. I'll give it credit for using this setting before a slew of other, more expensive movies got to it, but that's about it.

Cobweb is, and that one just came out earlier this year. I was pleasantly surprised by it. Is that the evil parents one with Homelander? I was intrigued by the trailer. Watched two not so recent ones this week; The Pumpkin Karver from 2006 and Jacko-O 1995. The Pumpkin Karver is pretty terrible, yet enjoyable all the same. It's VERY 2006. It's poorly made and really cheap looking but because of when it was made it was just barely too early to be a movie at its level and be shot digitally, so it actually had a filmic look. It doesn't matter because the script, effects, and performances are awful, but it lends it a semi-watchabilty. And the kills and effects are amusing. It also features actors who all seemed to go on to continue to work in things you've seen, albeit in very small parts. The biggest name is Minka Kelly who is most famous for... I guess dating Derek Jeter. But also some acting. She's not any good in this, but neither is anyone else. Not the main guy who has to pretend to go crazy, the evil unhinged psycho who sometimes wears a Pumpkin mask, or the two stoner partiers straight out of every 2000-something movie. It doesn't feel like fall at all, but at least there are loads of pumpkins. I can't really recommend this to anyone unless this is the kind of thing you'd enjoy for the curiosity. It's not good at all, but amusing and scratches the itch for this very specific era and type. Similar things can be said about Jack-o. It's also very much of its time, its also very much terrible, it also has a shoddy looking jackolantern headed killer, but it's also amusing for those reasons. It's dull and too long but punctuated with fun moments. Also, Linnea Quigley is in it and gets naked for no real reason, so that's cool, and although it's not the last movie John Carradine made it was the last of his movies to be released as he shot scenes years before the rest of it was shot. And it feels like it. Another one that's fun as a relic and curiosity that's objectively bad.

Also some amateur thing called Blood Pi on Amazon. It's also really bad. Written, directed and acted by people who have no idea what they're doing on any level. Really terrible.

The Hollow (2004 TVM) I wrote about this one on the first page last year. It's quite bad, but I'm a nerd for all things Sleepy Hollow. It has little to do with the story, and even less to do with the actually place. This town looks nothing like the actual town of Tarrytown or the village of Sleepy Hollow, which I guess is fine, but it's just amusing if you know the place. The only interesting things about it, really, are the familiar faces that star in this thing inexplicably, and the fact that there's one explicit sex and violence scene that is easily lifted out so that it can play on family friendly TV. It was clearly designed to sell both as a violent exploitation movie on DVD and also as a kid friendly tween movie for television. It's disappointing for both lanes, but not a terrible business plan.
