I avoided the Lynch version for a long time, even as a Lynch fan (not that he's very proud of the film). Today I decided "what the hell?" and gave it a watch, and while I didn't care for it much, it wasn't that bad. I found it about as unengaging as the new one, but it told twice the story in half the time. And Maclachlan is a far better lead than Chalemet.
The Dune universe just doesn't seem to be for me (I couldn't even stand listening to Jodorowsky talk about his version) but quirky 80s Lynch has a lot more personality than Denis. Yes: pretty cinematography, talented actors underacting, and Hans Zimmer stomping on musical instruments. I get it.

How the hell does the 1984 version age so many votes? I mean it has some good parts but come on

The 1984 version isn't as bad as its legacy suggests, but I still prefer 2021 and I wasn't as crazy about it like some were.
