Next week in a sequel set 10 years after he disppeared and became a lumberjack
Not sure how I feel about this. The attraction of the previous show was waiting for him to be found out. Don't really want to go through all that again

Filmed not too far from me, looking forward to seeing Dex wander around my neck of the woods. Not sure we need it at this point, but I'll check it out.

I'm in. He has a son now. This always works. Family Ties, Growing Pains, The Cosby Show. Makes the show fresh

I didn't realize this was coming next week; how time flies. From what I can see of the premise, it looks like Phillips is trying to do the best he can to correct the show's official ending short of ignoring it completely. Deb is back albeit as a Harry-like ghost. Julia Jones is playing Dexter's love interest (I initially read it as Julio Jones).
I used to be a hardcore Dexter fan - hopefully, this will be a return to the glory days in some sense, and at least give the story a satisfactory ending.

What was that Season 1?
Lost interest after the Trinity Killer (I'm one of the few that was glad Rita got it) and seemed to just put it on at times
I was always in love with Julia Stiles but The 'Lumen' season was brutal

Doakes was in the first two seasons ("Surprise, motherfucker!") but his main pursuit of Dexter took place in season 2 as I recall. I just remembered he showed up in the season 7 finale in some capacity - can't remember how. It probably sucked. I'm guessing a crap, retconning flashback or terribly-written ghost appearance. Or both.

Dexter is my favorite show of all time (if you couldn’t tell by my username). Needless to say I’m very excited for its return. I probably liked the ending more than most people, but I think the biggest problem was it didn’t really feel like an ending. It felt more like it was setting up a new chapter. So I’m glad they are finally following up on that.

I've said his on another board, but I'm excited but leery. I do think this is an attempt to fix that dopey ending. The concept of Dexter as "Shopkeeper Jim" and the old Dark Passenger creeping back is interesting. And it looks like two "ghosts" will be in Shopkeeper Jim's head. Deb and Arthur Mitchell, the Trinity Killer. Having Lithgow back is either a home run or a forced nod to the series best season. I'm going to assume that if Dexter goes back to killing, it won't be until the end. At times, the kills derailed the narrative. The story arc would get going great 9especially in S4) and then a random kill would set the arc back.

I will watch it for sure, even though I think it is completely unnecessary.

I will watch it for sure, even though I think it is completely unnecessary. I'm in for sure. Is any TV really necessary?

I drifted in and out of Dexter. The season with John Lithgow was outstanding and the only one I watched every week it was on.
I've no interest in this but I will say that, unlike a lot of other shows returning after a decade, you can't say no one wanted this. I've got the impression every hard-core Dexter fan wants better than they got in the series finale.

I don't get where they go from last season. Dexter was a good show but like most ran its course. This nostalgia binge is gross. We are getting How I Met Your Father too. Another show that ended badly but had a fanbase.

I meant it in the context of a revival. If it was a show that was popular but ended abruptly and unsatisfactorily, I wouldn’t have a problem with labeling it as “necessary”. But that’s not the case with Dexter, in my opinion. It ran its course and I was perfectly happy with it having ended the way it did.

Didn't get on with it, the books were much better. the sister character was much more interesting in the books and I believe the TV show completely cut out the part of Dexter's training his girlfriends children to learn to kill and become budding versions of him.
