It always makes me sad that Don Coscarelli could never raise the money for that post-apocalyptic Phantasm sequel with Bruce Campbell. That would've been kickass, and Phantasm: Ravager is just a pale shadow of what could've been. Speaking of Coscarelli, all these years on and we've still never seen Bubba Nosferatu. JJ Abrams is a huge fan of Coscarelli and Phantasm. With an ally like that you'd think he might have some better luck getting things made now. I know Paul Giamatti is a fan too, and was attached to Bubba Nosferatu, but as the years went on Bruce Campbell has already said he's not interested in playing that part again.

There were many ideas for Alien sequels which never got made.
The plot for Alien 3 went through several permutations. The most famous might be the script written by Vincent Ward and John Fasano. It would've been set on a monastery satellite populated by a crew of reclusive monks who have rejected all modern technology. Parts of this were later reused in the final script.
Then there was Neill Blomkamp's plan for an Alien sequel which would've brought back Hicks from Aliens.
I also recall that at one point there was an idea to have Ripley travel to the xenomorphs' home planet.

Dario Argento's FRANKENSTEINI read about this proposed early '80s project some 10-15 years ago... I don't believe the script was ever completed. It was to be a gory (naturally!) retelling of the Frankenstein story, only set in 1930s Nazi Germany instead of the 19th Century. Argento supposedly wanted Timothy Dalton to play the Peter Cushing-ish Baron Frankenstein. (Argento made TENEBRE and PHENEOMENA instead.) Interesting considering that Timothy Dalton would later go on to star in the TV series Penny Dreadful which used parts of the Frankenstein story.

How about the original-original Child's Play, Blood Buddies? It was gonna be more of a psychological thriller where you're not sure if it's Andy or Chucky doing the killings, and there was no voodoo element.
Been looking for this script for years. Don't suppose anyone on imdb2 has seen it?

John Hughes? I'd heard they wanted Joe Dante. Both, actually. Apparently Hughes finished an entire script for it, and Dante was supposed to direct.

I wouldn't have really thought of John Hughes for that kind of thing, but I could have seen those two guys working well together.

To my knowledge "Old scratch" has never been released... It starred Tom Dekker and Ashley Laurence. About a band selling their souls to Satan.
"American girls" is apparently based on the rape and murder of two Australian schoolgirls. We got a trailer but it's never appeared anywhere.
"In a madman's world" (2016) is based on Dean Corrl dubbed the serial killer the Candyman. Along with two teenage accomices he would procure young boys and teens to rape, torture, and murder. Also Marilyn Burns's last film. Someone said it's on YouTube but I haven't checked yet.

Also Marilyn Burns's last film. Someone said it's on YouTube but I haven't checked yet. This is an interesting category unto itself. I looked up those titles and the only one I found any info on was In a Madman's World, and the user reviews suggest that it was a kick-starter thing and the guy never sent out the copies to the contributors.. but that, as you said, it was posted on YouTube. Old Scratch sounds an awful lot like American Satan (and of course sort of like the Washington Irving story it takes its name from) which starred Malcolm McDowell and some guy from some band. American Girls being about Australian girls makes for an odd title, and that title being so generic makes for a lot of titles to sift through on IMDb. Anyway.... There was a movie I was following pretty closely back when it was in production about 15 years ago now called Sin-Jin Smyth. It starred Rody Piper, Richard Tyson, and Jonathon Davis the lead singer of Korn. Charles Cyphers was also in it, and Mdinight Syndicate was gonna do the musical score. At the time there was a fair bit of hype and excitement surrounding it. There were rave reviews of preview screenings and a teaser trailer. Then word came that they needed to do some additional photography and the movie would be delayed. Then no word for a while. Then every so often there would be some update about how they never finished shooting and needed additional funds to finish the scenes that they weren't able to get to. Then years went by and you heard some of the actors admit that it was just never gonna happen. Rody Piper in particular got annoyed by having to continue answering the same questions and said they kept trying to get the money together but he knew at that point it was never gonna happen. Obviously he's since passed away, and the original release date was 2006. It's certainly fair to say it's officially never gonna happen. The plot was that Tyson and Piper played cops who had to transport a mysterious prisoner played by Davis on Halloween night during a storm, and the background is that on that date each year the devil appears in two places each year... somewhere in India and somewhere in the American Midwest, which just so happens to be where these cops need to move this prisoner. That's about all I know of the plot. There was an intriguing teaser trailer, and eventually whole scenes, but short scenes, were released on YouTube. It looked promising, but it's pretty hard to tell considering how little footage there is... and it's not like it looked especially great, just suggested there might be better stuff in other scenes. It's not a bad idea, and maybe some sort of remake is in the cards at some point because the concept could made into something cool. Also, the writer/director Ethan Dettenmaier hasn't done anything else at all as far as I can tell. Maybe fucking this one up ruined any chance he had at making anything else, but if he still owns it maybe it's worth something to sell the rights/story/script or something. Anyway, it's an interesting history. The Wikipedia page is worth a read at least.

Was able to find a low quality trailer for "Old Scratch". youtu.be/XypMdmHUK54Yeah the 2013 "American Girls" for whatever reason changed the locale. Bai Ling and James Duvall were the most recognizable stars. I was interested in the true crime angle it was (allegedly) based on. For whatever reason it fell through. www.imdb.com/title/tt2108465/It looks like it may be based on the Bega School girl murders... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bega_schoolgirl_murders

Maybe it's just a weak trailer though. Like I mentioned before, it seems similar to American Satan, which is not a big budget movie (or a particularly good movie), but looks more professional than this. I think it had the advantage of casting a guy from an actual band of some popularity. Not a band that I know anything about, but I think they shot some stuff at actual concerts so you could see the fictional band get more popular in the movie after the guy signed his deal with the devil. Again, it's not very good, not even above average, but it kinda seems like an answer of sorts to the 'what-if' question of the Old Scratch movie. Oddly enough Kevin Gage, who is listed in the cast of American Girls, was also in Sin-Jin Smyth. I looked it up on YouTube and there are indeed, readily available, a few full sequences. Not sure that anyone cares, and it doesn't seem especially great or anything, but you can tell this was almost a real movie. It's got a nice look to even if you can tell it wasn't the most professionally executed thing.

I'm probably in the minority when I say I really like Alien 3. But I'd still would love to have seen Vincent Ward's planned version - medieval monks on a wooden planet! That would have gone down well (and might have been brilliant)

Originally Superman III was supposed to end on a cliffhanger, with the evil tar-infected Superman turning into the evil Cyborg... And the world would have to battle Cyborg Superman in Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. Instead we got this: And this: And This: ...AND... This: And ALMOST This: Well, Thank God, the First Nuclear Man was deleted from the final cut of the film... But, where did it all go so wrong? The world having to face an Evil Cyborg Superman, would have been a fantastic horror/Thriller film. The original scripted ending for Superman IV, was re-worked and became the junkyard scene in Superman III...

Surely it must have been better than some of the actual Texas Chainsaw sequels we've gotten in the intervening years...
