Dean Stockwell passed Sunday in Ranch de Taos of natural causes
he was one of The child stars of the great 1940’s, along with Margaret OBRIEN, Russ TAMBLYN, the Hickmans, children with great dramatic presence. Dean was one of the few who transitioned successfully into adult roles . He had some rough years and dropped out into hippie culture and drugs, but returned to acting with a solid career in TV. Ranch de Taos is one of a series of villages and Pueblos high in the Sanger De Cristos mountains in New Mexico .
i especially like his performance in Gentleman’s Agreement

But he was wonderful in GENTLEMANS AGREEMENT and fun as Nick Charles Jr.... SONS AND LOVERS was a good one. and he had a wonderful role in MARRIED TO THE MOB.

I think the first movie that I saw on TV was The Boy With Green Hair. I'm not sure if it was because it was a "first," for me, or because of the story line, but for years, I wanted to see it again. When home videos became available it was one of the first films I searched for.

I think I liked him best for his young adult roles:

Dean Stockwell was a fine actor and a gifted artist. He worked with a number of directors from Hollywood's Golden Age, particularly those who emerged in the 1940s like Jacques Tourneur, Elia Kazan, Richard Fleischer and Joseph Losey (as well as Richard Brooks who was then working as a writer). He also worked with some directors associated with the Golden Age of television, such as Arthur Hiller, Sidney Lumet, John Frankenheimer and Robert Altman.
For me, his entry in to Roger Corman's orbit, and his work for American International Pictures, showed the kind of man he really was. He worked with art director Daniel Haller and independent filmmaker Richard Rush, Francis Coppola and Jonathan Demme ... and of course, his great friend and collaborator, Dennis Hopper, who was a gifted artist himself. Stockwell was courted by maverick filmmakers throughout his career. He worked with William Wellman, Albert Band, Juan Lopez Moctezuma, Michael Winner, Sidney Hayers, Henry Jaglom, David Lynch, Wim Wenders, Tony Scott ... I'm guessing his work in television must have provided a steady salary, but he made the best television too. He was in the classic and modern 'Twilight Zone' series, he was in Ben Gazzara's cult feature-length detective outing 'Columbo : Troubled Waters', he co-starred with Scott Bakula in one of the truly great science-fiction fantasy concepts, 'Quantum Leap' ...
As a person, I feel he was someone you could rely on. As a performer, his performance in 'Blue Velvet' (1986) is one of the most astonishing pieces of screen acting ever committed to celluloid. He'll be missed.
Thanks for the movies, Mr. Stockwell ... see you on the other side ...
