Is it important for a girl to know the players names or can we just act like we do? I suck at knowing sports stuff but I need to learn about it...so I can talk about it with men.

Guys into sports will gladly teach you if you say you're interested. It's a good option for a date. Have them take you to a game, or even just to a sports bar, and they'll start teaching you about it. You might even come to appreciate it and be a fan yourself. I've gotten some people into sports--not just women, but some people I work with, who became curious because of my passion for sports, and some of them were older--in their 60s, say, so it's never too late. It's a better approach to say that you're interested but don't know much if anything than to act interested but quickly make it clear that you don't know the sport.

I know quite a few women who are into MMA and will legitimately hang out with the guys on fight night, watching the entire thing and really getting into the fights. I think maybe it's because the sport is more primal and it doesn't matter how much you know or don't know about the sport -- a really good MMA fight can draw you in regardless. Just don't call it "ultimate fighting" and you should be okay.
Baseball is also good because it's ridiculously slow paced, the perfect sport for listening on the radio during car rides or when doing stuff around the house. The main statistics are also very easy to understand, and to know why they're important.
Baseball is also a much more regional sport with loyalties firmly divided between cities and metro areas, so if you're after drooling retards from Boston who love "the Sawks" then being into the Red Sox is a huge plus. If you're into more suave, more handsome and far more civilized men, you'll obviously have your sights set on Yankees fans. And if you like lovable losers, who better than perpetually downtrodden Mets fans?
