What do folks think of him? I am getting into what he is saying and trying to put some into practice, there seems to be a couple of levels in his teachings and it can be hard to understand his process sometimes.
Are any of you practicing what he talks about, are you having much success?
oh and to settle a bet, do you think he is more Buddhist or Christian thinking? (not that he can't be both I guess)
I would be interested in ideas and thoughts.

Really?? How so? Can you be more specific? It’s a pun. I’m not really familiar with him. I think Oprah likes him, so he must be a power of positive thinking type guy. Nothing wrong with that unless to gets out of hand. Is it because tolle sounds like tool??? Sorry it's been a long day with the lower achieving kids, so I missed the criticism. Yeah it is a bit more than just positive thinking, he's talking about the constant talk in our heads and how that is often the source of our pain, then moreso how we identify with those thoughts and the thoughts become us, but actually we are deeper than that and by stilling those thoughts we can access our higher?? better?? prettier?? selves.

Interesting guy who frames mindfulness in a different way so it resonates with different people.
(He apparently doesn't like the term 'mindfulness', since the object of his teachings is to lesson the extraneous 'fullness' of the mind.)
My brother and a friend of mine who went through a divorce both really enjoyed 'The Power of Now'.
He's a person who helps others.
When people shit on someone like that, it says a lot about them.

Yeah it's more than just mindfulness, I feel like he teaches presence (his word for mindfulness) as a tool rather than an end goal, that if we become present we firstly can mange the incessant dialogue in our heads that brings up grief, but also that is the starting place for a deeper understanding of our own 'real' selves, which in turns leads us into the spiritual path he hints at. I personally am finding an awful lot of good in his words, I guess I am looking a bit for criticism so that I do not get too blinded around him.

I like the 'Pain body' analogy for intrusive, negative, pessimistic thinking patterns. 'Stillness Speaks' I really liked, it was like a Upanishad. About judging others: “If her past were your past, her pain your pain, her level of consciousness your level of consciousness, you would think and act exactly as she does. With this realization comes forgiveness, compassion, peace. The ego doesn't like to hear this, because if it cannot be reactive and righteous anymore, it will lose strength.”
