Something tells me this probably wouldn’t get made today.

This was the Paul Newman hockey film was it not? I don't remember it too well- what part is objectionable?
(BTW- The French Connection- your avatar- would definitely not be made today due to police brutality and treatment of blacks)

Why should she care what anyone thinks about her? Shes just scrappin' Hey, how does Braden treat her? Is he nice to her? Denis Lemieux: Oh yeah, he love her. He tell me 'I love her.' Reggie Dunlop: Well, maybe Braden's a faggot, you ever think of that? Denis Lemieux: No way, he got a big cock, like horse. In today’s far too sensitive society, I at least appreciated its crassness.

Oh yes that!
70's films in general were pretty raw when it came to derogatory slurs- I found them everywhere. I think there was a lot of desire to be realistic and, in reality, this is how people talked (and maybe still do).
The policing of language in today's films does lose some realism.

I feel like very few movies from that era would be able to get made today. Beat me to it. The 1970s and the 2020s are 2 very different worlds. There was more freedom then.

A group of people saying there was more freedom in an era where a mainstream movie like Brokeback Mountain could not be made but at least you could call its subjects "faggot" would make a good comedy sketch.

There was The Boys in the Band (1970). There was also Harold and Maude (controversial relationship movie) that I’m not sure could get made today. But maybe freedom wasn’t the right word. My point was simply that language didn’t seem to be as restricted then as it is now. Sorry if I offended.

Boys is a movie that some papers wouldn't run ads for, got banned in Australia, and had its only gay kiss cut out of it. Still a long way from Brokeback, not to mention the cowboy western element which was controversial even in 2005. And you're good. I just couldn't resist the irony.
