It’s a revisionist western featuring a pretty much all black cast portraying actual historical black western figures, although their stories in this movie are completely fictional. It was actually really awesome! It’s a very stylish modern western…akin to stuff like Django and Hateful Eight…which is why it’s got strong Tarantino vibes. The music didn’t always hit for me but it hit enough that I consider it a positive. The cast was great. I enjoyed pretty much all of them for a variety of reasons. I even got upset when one in particular died so that should say something.
Spoilers….
I will say the White Town (or whatever the city was called) bank robbery felt tacked on and actually slowed the plot down right in the middle. It was cool visually…but did nothing for me otherwise.
I actually enjoyed the reveal at the end too. Added weight where I didn’t expect any. Even if it’s a cliche at this point.
