In an interview she said: “Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget. They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well.”

It’ll probably be cartoons and television show cameos.

What story could be left to tell for those characters? A Star Wars parody maybe?

Rogue One is getting a spinoff and all the characters died , and the least interesting character of the movie too will lead the show. Give us a Rose Tico show damn it.

I don't really care if we ever see any of the Sequel Trilogy characters ever again, but... Rey's story is already told. Poe's back story is probably more interesting than anything he'd be involved in moving forward, but I really don't like prequels. So that leaves Finn. While I don't care much for him as a character (seeing as how they didn't DO anything significant with him in any of the three movies!), but he is the one with some potential story left to be told. That thing he wanted to tell Rey when he thought they were going to die (in TROS) is that he believed he was force sensitive (not that he loved her). So there's that. Theres also the unresolved story of him and Rose, and for that matter the unresolved story of him and Jannah (Naomi Ackie). But the most interesting missed opportunity for him is the whole "I used to be a storm trooper" angle. I always thought it would be interesting if he recruited other imperials that wanted to leave the First Order like he did. I thought that's what they were going to do with him, and they never did.

Making him a janitor didn't help that angle.

Making him a janitor didn't help that angle. That's what I'm saying. And they did that just for one laugh in one movie. And what was the point of making him force sensitive in the last movie when A) it amounted to nothing anyway? and B) they didn't even actually state it outright?! Started with so much potential in TFA and then... wasted character. Even Boyega himself has been pretty vocal about not wanting to return as the character.

That’s actually part of his character’s story in Duel of Fates, the episode IX script that Collin Trevorrow wrote and Kathleen Kennedy rejected because of “creative differences”. And then, of course, she fired him and replaced him with Abrams. And we got TROS.
