As long as war is more profitable than peace, they will never give peace a chance.
But if peace where to become more profitable than war, than they would all give peace a chance.

Actually that is pretty much the only reason we haven't invaded Saudi Arabia (despite massive civil rights violations and ties with terrorists), we wouldn't wanna screw up those oil deals we have with the Saudi family. So yeah sometimes peace is more profitable.

I dunno. The U.S. invaded Vietnam and failed. Invaded Afghanistan and failed. Invaded Iraq and what do we have to show for it? Chaos in Syria and an emboldened Iran.
Yeah, I never thought much of the silly hippies. But they're preferable to the militarists who wasted blood and money on pointless Asian wars.
Funny thing about those hippies, many of them got older and became Reagan Republicans/neocons by the 1980s anyways and gave up on whatever hippie aspirations they had. "Give peace a chance"? Give upper class tax cuts and bloated military spending a chance!

One of my Australian friends was a “silly hippy” who during the Vietnam War got his arm broken while getting arrested at an anti-draft protest, was finally released and went straight back to join another protest. He’s no longer a hippy but still pretty left wing. Although there were plenty of hippies who deserved to be mocked there were still many who took their knocks (and often returned them).

This is a whole debate unto itself. The hippy movement was rather "silly" in retrospect. We can also point to the fact that most those hippies got older and "sold out" by becoming exactly what their parents were. They changed nothing. They were atavistic. Thank god the whole world didn't join communes. Manson was a hippy.
But critique of the hippie movement in history is not a slam against everyone who ever wore a flower their hair.
How do you know most sold out? Come on, people change as they get older and settle down but saying hippies turned into neo cons is daft. Yes, the neo con movement apparently started with people who were originally left wing but that in the end doesn't mean hippies turned into war mongering conservatives. And Manson wasn't really a hippy. He was someone who attached himself to the movement for his own gains which is why he was okay with using his girls as prostitutes.

I dunno about "most" but a good chunk of former hippies definetly became Regan Republicans/neocons by the 1980s, there's no getting around that. The Cold War was in full swing again and by proxy free market capitalism/neoliberalism was being pushed, and most of the country was well behind it, look at the election maps for 1980 and 1984, almost all red (including California and new York). The 1980s were arguably the "redest" era for the US. If you look at the people old enough to have been hippies during the original 1960s scene (about late 60s to early 80s), the OVERWHELMINGLY vote Republican.

I'd still like to see actual proof but guess interpretating the figures is enough for some people. I'm not denying that many hippies turned conservative as they got older but I can't help but think that it wasn't enough of a percentage to state that this is what most hippies did. I guess I just don't hate hippies enough to think the worse of them.

I don't really "hate" hippies, any group that advocates left leaning politics is generally fine with me, but they don't always have the best takes, particularly since so many tend to be New Ager types that reject modern medicine and vaccines.

The last example is why I think there’s already enough about hippies that’s worth mocking. Most people evolve while others remain trapped in fairy land. Although George Harrison (getting back to the Beatles) didn’t turn right wing he did end up supporting and funding these people.

It was a surprise hit back in the early 90'ies. I just asked because that's the only place I heard the "Give peas a chance" joke before.
