Was it a perpetual check draw?

Carlson admitted he made a mistake in the end game, didn't press his oh so slight advantage.

Yup, threefold repetition.
I didn't realize that the previous World Championships had ended with every single game being drawn! Hopefully doesn't happen again...

Nepo refused to be interviewed alone after the match choseing instead to go straight to the press conference.

Game 2 about to begin.
Funny thing from yesterday - Nepo not allowed to play under the Russian flag due to doping violations!
Think it would have to be some kind of X-Men style brain injections to effect chess players 😂
Magnus has gone for some crazy Tailor of Panama style suit!

Just think if they used real people as the chess pieces. It might get an audience...

On to game 5 now. Four draws thus far. Nepo might possibly have the upper hand today though... youtu.be/SPvOzcNlm9U

Yeah, disappointing - thought I'd get home in time to watch some exciting end game but they went with another repetition... Magnus Carlsen has now drawn nineteen consecutive World Championships classical matches! All five here, twelve against Caruana in 2018 and the last two against Karjakin in 2016! Maybe getting to the stage where the format needs to be thought about - although bizarrely despite the last two championships going to rapid tie breaks, it looks like they've increased the number of games from twelve to fourteen this time around!

I think that because of Carlsen's extensive advantage in blitz and/or rapid , he has no real desire to "push the boat out" as it were. He's content to play solid, fortress like chess and wait for this opponent to make a risky move as black, and as white hes played even more defensive knowingly playing openings renown for their drawishness.
It will be interesting what happens in games 12, 13 and 14 if its still a 6-6, all draws by then.

Probably true, although to be fair to Carlsen he has at least varied his openings with white thus far and Game 2 was at least exciting. Anyway, let's see what happens next - the order reverses after Game 6 so Magnus has two games in a row with white. Agadmator giving some in depth analysis of the pre game handshakes:- youtu.be/JVdiRyRHI14😂

Carlsen with a 2 point cushion now after 8 games - he leads 5-3.
Game 8 was a perfect illustration of just how accurate these players truly are. 21 … b5? wasn’t a classic blunder in any sense of the word, but it gave Carlsen an advantage of a pawn and a tempo that he never relinquished and forced Nepo into an endgame which he couldn’t convert into a draw.
