On the individual pages on IMDb there are "User Lists" and it says "see all related lists' and there are list after list in which the actor whose page it is is listed along with hundreds/ thousands of other names ( ex :my favorite actor, actors who died of cancer, actors who were on Star trek etc ) and yet ...user lists with detailed filmographies of an actor complete with commentary are not posted.
SO ..the question is... does anyone reading this know how the USER LISTS linked to a page are chosen ?
Is it purely random ?

All individual lists have a "created on" and "updated on" date, and each name on each list comes with the date it was added on.

That's interesting BUT it seems to have nothing to do with what I asked. How do they pick which lists will be added to a page ? The majority of them just have the individual's name mentioned among a mass of other names.

It would be totally random. If I recall correctly the "user lists" are lists that members make not IMDb so where and when an actor appears on a list is totally up to whoever it was that made the list.

But, I am not asking about the lists themselves. I am wondering how it is decided which of those lists are to be linked BY IMDb to the actor's page. A List that is, for instance, specifically about a particular actor which has his name in the title is NOT linked to that actor's page but lists with that same actor's name as one of several thousand in a list entitled "actors I like" is ! Having put time and effort into some quite specific lists, it's disappointing to see them not linked while "people who died of cancer" with several hundred names is linked.

re -reading this in more detail .... this seems to relate to "submissions" ... as in adding to a filmography or bits of trivia and not to users lists as such. but thanks anyway

No not that place, Catman , BUT it has been asked there now ... seems one has to start a separate account to post there as they did not recognize / recognize the basic IMDb account Thanks for the help and the address. It's not a biggy question and more of another puzzlement things. |

I use them from time to time for inspiration as what to watch, when I'm out of ideas, but I usually start from a lesser known actor or actress of old times.
Knowing very well that some lists are suspicious.
