Maybe. Unless Fantastic Beasts runs all the goodwill into the ground.

No chance in hell. Avatar's re release in China (this year) beat Mulan's theater run and it only took 10 days. That's impressive as hell no matter how you slice it. www.thewrap.com/avatar-china-box-office-mulan/On a side note I still have yet to see a single Harry Potter film. I just have no interest in that franchise. A film about a little boy and his broom just doesn't interest me at all.

Zero chance.
Harry Potter isn't Han Solo, & even SW TFA didn't dethrone the first Avatar.

most of todays generation doesnt even know who or what harry potter is..........i grew up with all the harry potter movies saw all of them in theatres except half blood prince and philosophers stone.
they would most likely be forced to nearly reboot the entire gfranchise unfortunately if they wanted this generation to see a new potter film

There's this thing called television that show's Harry Potter movies every weekend. It's the same thing where I grew up watching and loving movies from the 30's 40's 50's and 60's all of which were in theaters before I was born.

The books are still everywhere and the Potter franchise is still being merchandised to death. Unlikely there are too many kids around above kindergarten age who don't know the character and stories to at least some extent.

It could if the Fantastic series wasn’t a thing. If the HP movies go quiet for a couple years and they do a sequel set 10-20 years later then I could see it setting box office records.

The WBD CEO David Zaslav is still interested apparently.

After looking at that HBO trailer, I suspect a feature film would be a nostalgia fest for adults who grew up watching the series (crikey, has the first one really been 21 years ago? The mind reels), but I'm not sure it would draw in a child crowd in any great numbers. Could be a fluke megahit and cash in big at the box office, but I don't see it topping 3 billion ever.

A Harry Potter movie with the original trio would probably rake in serious cash, but I’m not so sure they’d be willing to come back, given their problems with J.K. Rowling.
