When asked about the role he'd like to take on next, here's what the Golden Globe Award winner had to say: "I'm about the challenges. At this point, like the character, I'm in the yellow leaf of my career. To be quite honest, looking to do other things. So as far as acting, it's gonna have to be an extreme challenge for me to be interested. I've been talking to one or two of the top directors in the business, and we're talking about maybe doing something. There's not that much left for me to do as actor. Maybe Lear."

He can direct more movies. As with the majority of actors I admire who've directed feature films, I've not been keen on his work in this field so far - not seen 'A Journal For Jordan' (2021).
I thought he was terrific in Dan Gilroy's interesting legal drama 'Roman J. Israel, Esq.' (2017) but understand it was a box-office failure.
Remakes will pay the bills but he seems like he wants to stretch his acting muscles. So, it's tricky, a lot of the directors he trusted are now old, dead or practically retired. I'd like to see Spike Lee write one last role for Denzel Washington if he does consider hanging up his boots.
Would he continue working on Broadway? Or maybe run an actor's project, or lead a major theatre company, while continuing to direct? He's talked about returning to Crossroads Theater Company, but I believe in the same breath he spoke of dedicating his remaining time on Earth to serving God.

Hmmm I wonder who those 2 "top directors in the business " he's referring to. Nolan perhaps? Fincher perhaps? (I know way back in the mid 90s Fincher's first choice to play Detective Mills in Se7en was Denzel but Denzel was so disgusted by the script even calling it "demonic and beyond disturbing" and he's not wrong in that regard either cause Se7en is one royally fucked up film . The role of course went to Brad Pitt. Denzel later saw the film and ended up loving it and mentioned in some interview that he regrets turning down that role) It'd be so criminal and a HUGE missed opportunity for Denzel and Fincher to go thru their entire legendary successful careers to have never worked on any film at least once. (ditto on Leonardo DiCaprio & David Fincher never making a film together other than that very short camera test that's on Youtube) Fincher may want to cut back on doing 100s of takes if he wants to work with Denzel though. Fincher apparently drove Michael Douglas nuts during the filming of The Game and made Gary Oldman snap during the filming of Mank. Just imagine how Denzel would react to being told to do a 94th take on a certain scene. Denzel thinking to himself "This Fincher fucker is getting on my motehrfuckin nerves! I swear if that cracka makes me do another take of this fucking scene I'm gonna go ape shit on his bitch ass! I guarndamntee it!" Fincher: "Cut . Let's do a couple more takes. Denzel, this time really sell your character's passion a bit more. You almost got it that time" Denzel: Fincher looking terrified and says : "Okay I think we're done for the day guys. That's a wrap for today. Great work Denzel enjoy the rest of your night!" Denzel: Denzel's right though that he literally has nothing else to prove (IMO he's a top 5 actor dead or alive ) As long as he doesn't join the MCU I'll support whatever the fuck Denzel wants to do. Hell I'd welcome three more Equalizer sequels than him joining the MCU.

Not much left for him to do as an actor? So he's done it all? He's played every character type that an actor can play? Been in every genre of film?
According to IMDB he's been in 55 movies. That's everything you can do as an actor?

He already stated he sees a possible end acting from stage, stage would be his actual passion.

He would be a great Lear from the out of control "Blow winds and crack your cheeks. Rage. Blow." to one of the most heartbreaking scenes ever written. "I am a very foolish fond old man, Fourscore and upward, not an hour more nor less; and to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind."

Id love to see a Johan Renck or maybe Shaka King verve.
