Several Muslim countries ban or restrict polygny. Of those that don't, it also tends to be practiced by the non-Muslim population. In Chad, polygny is actually more common among the Christian minority than the Muslim majority.

I met a guy from Pakistan whose father had 4 wives, and like 25 children. I don't really understand how that could work. First of all, how do you support 4 wives and 25 kids? Wouldn't all those kids running around get pretty annoying after a while? And how can a society even function when the population is about 50:50 male to female, with some men having 4 wives, while others presumably can't have one wife? It doesn't seem like it would work very well.

Judging by the locals I’d say not all Islamic families are the same. The OP comes from a long tradition of heretic and witch burning. There isn’t a Muslim she does not hate on sight. She’ll tell you she’s hires them, but then post hate speech about them here. So who knows what her problem is? Lies and hate. It’s the Spirit of Christmas!

Wouldn't all those kids running around get pretty annoying after a while? And how can a society even function when the population is about 50:50 male to female, with some men having 4 wives, while others presumably can't have one wife? It doesn't seem like it would work very well. It's a leftover from the middle ages when poor men die in war and poor women get shared amongst the elite men like cattle. The countries where it is most common today are in sub-Saharan Africa where men are still more likely to die young and women have fewer rights. Burkina Faso has I think the highest rates of polygyny in the world and by the ages of 25-54, women considerably outnumber men there. Thomas Sankara put a stop to polygyny and forced marriages during his time as president there but they all came back after he was assassinated.
