So Spider-Man No Way Home had the 2nd biggest opening of all time this past weekend at the box office. It opened to 600 million world wide. Other films that have opened like it have gotten to the 2 billion mark, roughly, when it was all said and done. I’m genuinely curious how well do you think No Way Home will do in the end?
I think it has good things going for it. Mainly there really isn’t much competition being released over the next few weeks. It’ll be the biggest film out for a while. Plus it’s the holiday season. The holiday season has really become the most popular time for movie theaters. I think it’s become bigger than the summer.
The bad thing is though covid. With the new variant cases are spiking. The Netherlands just went into a 2 week lockdown. Ireland is imposing a curfew. I have a feeling we are gonna see more of this in the upcoming days outside of the US. I don’t think we are gonna see lockdowns in the US, however I do think we are gonna see people cancelling plans of their own accord. Beyond just covid, I feel like a movie like Spider-Man is gonna be pretty front loaded regardless.
So what effect will all this have on No Way Home’s final box office numbers?

I wouldn't be surprised it makes a billion by the end of its run.

Who knew an A list cast with an A list superhero with an established fanbase with no preachy marketing would do well.

I wouldn't be surprised it makes a billion by the end of its run. I think it could do a lot more than that if it weren’t for Covid. I think it could have made 1.8-1.9 billion. With the new variant though it may only be looking at the low billions, which still isn’t bad at all.

I wouldn't be surprised it makes a billion by the end of its run. Wonder how the pandemic will affect profits? In my country, cinemas must now close at 8pm, so there are no late evening showings. And there are European countries with tighter restrictions.

No particular reason in terms of the films content. More as a reaction to the ever growing dissent between China and U.S. I think it was direct retaliation to U.S saying they wont send diplomats to the Olympics in China.

The United States banned diplomats weeks ago I thought this had been going on since last year.

It help that it's good, little to no woke, and features the return of characters from the Raimi trilogy and Webber films.

What has been the inflation in ticket prices the last 3 years? I can't find any solid stats post 2019...but im seeing 9.16 as the average in 2019. Today i paid 9.25...but it was a matinee. If i were to buy a ticket for 7:30 at the same theatre it'd be 12.25, so a 3 dollar price difference in showtimes. But that's also just my one example...i have no idea what the current national average is.
