I try to recycle materials as much as I can. Disposable food items like banana peels and coffee grounds can be used for garden compost.

I recently learned that most plastics are actually not even recyclable. Even when marked as recyclable. Apparently only like 10% of plastics actually get recycled and the little triangle logo is usually meaningless.
We think we’re doing good but really it’s mostly a psychological comfort to make us feel okay about consuming massive amounts of trash. Plastics really should just be phased out of modern society completely and replaced with glass and/or paper containers.
