Im sure the players don't mind too much having to play, but for the people who have to work it, Id say it sucks and the league shouldn't play that day.

I think it's in their contract. They know there's a good possibility they'll play on holidays. For that kind of money, I doubt they care that much.

There's no law, that says people have to celebrate Christmas on December 25th...
For several years, I had a shift job, where I was required to work nights, weekends, and HOLIDAYS... Some years, Christmas was on a day, that I had off, other years it was on the day that I was required to work...
I just celebrated the holiday with my family on some other day... Usually on the nearest weekend to the 25th... (Granted, this year might be a challenge for those working this weekend.)
Thankfully, getting the Holiday Pay on top of my regular 40 hour a week paycheck made the issue easier to deal with!
They can play the game, get their huge paychecks, and celebrate the holiday on another day... too...

Im not talking about the players here as most of these workers at the stadiums are under paid and will be missing out on family time, and for what really?

They can play the game, get their huge paychecks, and celebrate the holiday on another day... too... Im not talking about the players here as most of these workers at the stadiums are under paid and will be missing out on family time, and for what really? That's true... When I was just starting out, I worked for a Grocery store, and had to work on Thanksgiving Day... We would close the store mid afternoon so that we could be with our families and have dinner, but it still sucked to have to work during that day... Even having some customers getting some last minute menu items wasn't too bad... Rolls, a couple of cans of Green Beans, ETC... But seeing people spending 200 dollars on cartloads filled with Turkey and Stuffing and all those other things was ridiculous... There are 364.25 other days each year to buy those things, which you know you need to buy for the holiday anyway. Get it then!... And then we had assholes that would rub it in our faces by saying: " I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE OPEN TODAY"... Fuck You!... I sooo much wanted to say to them: " WELL IF YOU HAVE KEPT YOUR ASS HOME, I WOULD NOT HAVE TO BE HERE WAITING ON YOU, AND I COULD SPEND ALL DAY WITH MY FAMILY!" They opened on the holiday for a couple of years, and it didn't generate much business, and then they decided to stop... BUT THEN CUSTOMERS BITCHED AND COMPLAINED... And so they stay open every since. Yeah, getting Minimum Wage, and dealing with Rude Assholes when you want to be with your family... Isn't the way for anyone to have to spend the Holidays. I remember hearing stories from my Parents and Grandparents about when on Sundays and Holidays, most places were closed... You couldn't even find any Local Gas stations open for business... This 24/7/365 all the time, is BS... This: glue your face to a smart phone and be online all the time, is destroying the family unit... For the good of our society, it's time we start shutting things down again, and focusing on Families... And this whining about needing to get stuff on the Holidays is BS... as I said, you can get Groceries and Gas on many other days of the year... Plan your lives better, you losers, and get it then... NO ONE WORKS 24/7/365 all the time! Get on your way home from Work.

Effin networks and TV ratings is why.

I grew up in a county which now has 1 million people and is on the opposite end of the George Washington Bridge from 175th St in Manhattan. They still have Sunday blue laws. Many items can't be purchased, and so many businesses and all the malls are closed. My dad bought an alarm clock and another item or 2 from a hardware store, and the purchase was busted and our items taken for evidence. I think it was about 6 years later when they let us have the stuff. www.northjersey.com/story/news/2017/06/23/11-things-you-might-not-know-bergen-countys-blue-laws/420512001/
