Here's a video on seafaring crocodilians of the Mesozoic with a few sections on Ichthyosaurs and Plesiosaurs. The Ichthyosaurs appear to be the best designed ocean reptiles of all time. They were certainly the most fishlike with an optimal body plan for moving through water. Ichthyosaurs gave live birth at sea to their offspring, much like present day whales. They didn't risk their safety while going on land to scoop out a nest. Nevertheless, they went extinct some time in the mid-Cretaceous, 50 million or so years before the K-T meteor strike. The Mosasaurs replaced Ichthyosaurs about three-million years after the Ichthyosaur fossil record ceases. Mosasurs were essentially large sea snakes and aerodynamically far inferior to their immediate predecessors. There's a considerable debate on the origin of Ichthyosaurs and how they relate to other reptiles. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichthyosaur

More proof that we don't know as much about our planet as some of us think we do...
This kind of discovery always reminds me to stay open minded about what some scientists suggest might still be out there, and beyond, for us to find...
