It's not just about Wolverine -- it looks like that after 17 years of the franchise, FOX is now rethinking about the directions for the series. There was a recent article on Forbes.com which suggested that the studio may be repositioning itself for movies with stronger emphasis on a mature audience ( maybe more R-rated movies?). At the same time Fox is expanding their audience with a good mix of new films ( including introducing new and younger mutants) and even looking at new sub-genres for comicbook films ( there was an article somewhere that The New Mutants will be a horror story)!
Re Wolverine -- maybe in the future, if he appears in a movie in the franchise, he might not be playing the/a central character? How many more new stories can they tell of the film Wolverine ( presumably in the time period before 2029)? If he is going to be recast to portray an aging Wolverine before 2029 -- how about a movie which traces how Wolverine/James Howlett/Logan and Prof X found themselves in the situation before the opening act of LOGAN?
As for Hugh Jackman -- I welcome the chance to see him in other action or dramatic movies which are the backbone of his film reputation. Although his next appearance, which will be another FOX movie, belongs to a completely different genre ( musicals!) - THE GREATEST SHOWMAN due out on Christmas Day this year. I guess that is also a recognition of his versatility as he has previously led a successful film adaptation of the dramatic musical LES MISERABLES.

They damn well better be hesitant. Many fans consider Hugh Jackman so vital in that role, they think the character of Wolverine should be retired with him.

BTW, stop with the reboot shit. This series is 17 years old. Rogue needs to evolve. Cyclops needs to evolve. There is still so much to explore in this franchise. To wipe away everything and replace it all with far more "accurate," far less artistic adaptations of the comics is only going to confuse people more than they already are.

Logan existed just fine without Jackman for all the years he was in print, he'll survive just fine with another actor. This is almost as bad as the Heath Ledger Joker Worship.

Not really the same thing. Ledger was The Joker for ONE MOVIE. Jackman has been Logan, steadily getting better and better for 17 years, 8 movies.
