1. Scream - 7.5/10 2. Scream 2 - 6/10 3. Scream 3 - 6/10 4. Scream 4 - 4/10 I probably liked these a little more than those scores would suggest, but (with 3 and 4 especially) the endings all have some element I don't like. They're overall really fun movies; the whodunit misdirection is top-notch. I never predicted any of the killers. The new one is something I might look into seeing this weekend. I'll definitely see it eventually. I am sorry, but I can't let this go. You rate Scream 4 4/10, but say it is a really fun movie. That is confusing to me. Haven’t we done this already? The movie is entertaining, but I don’t enjoy the story/character decisions. And, as stated above, the ending undermines a lot of the success before. It’s also the least “fun” of the four. Just a generalization above.

My issues with humor vs normal processes when it comes to meta analysis is unique to say the least.

After seeing the new one:
Scream - 8/10 Scream 5 - 7/10 Scream 2 - 7/10 Scream 4 - 7/10 Scream 3 - 6/10
2, 4 and 5 are pretty much a toss-up for me.

Finally saw the new one. It was good, a 7/10 for me. The first half was awesome; it was easily on its way to being my favorite of the series. Then it gets a little too cutesy with the meta stuff and the final reveal is more humorous than riveting or cool. I loved that meta-within-meta moment when Annoying-as-Hell Girl from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood dies almost the exact same way in this one too (and essentially plays the same character by the end). The Rian Johnson jokes were hilarious, too.

Scream - 9/10 - Easily the best horror movie of 1996. Good script and funny at times.
Scream 4 - 9/10 - The best and darkest of the sequels. Quite inventive and surprisingly graphic.
Scream 2 - 7/10 - This one requires a re-watch but I recall feeling it to be an inferior re-thread of the original.
Scream 3 - 3/10 - Pretty worthless sequel. I liked the Hollywood setting but it was a good example of how lame slashers from circa 2000 tended to be.
Scream 5 - n/s

Scream - 9/10 Scream 4 - 8/10 Scream 5 - 7/10 Scream 2 - 7/10 Scream 3 - 7/10

Just watched them all this weekend (4 & 5 for the first time, the others first time in 15 or so years)
All solid, fun films overall. My main issue with all of them is buying the motivations behind the killings (one exception), plus they all have terrible soundtracks
7 Scream Scream 2 Scre4m Scream 3
6 Scream (2022)

Scream - A milestone and one of the best-written slasher movies (if not the best-written) ever. - 8.5/10
Scream 2 - A lesser mystery than the first one, but a better slasher movie with some stand-out sequences. - 8/10
Scream 4 - Too meta and goofy which is both its blessing and its curse. - 5/10
Scream 3 - I used to think this was pretty solid, but it doesn't hold up well after rewatches. - 4.5/10
Scream 5 - Lazy, cash-grab sequel featuring an unappealing young cast, while the returning veterans are acting like they are on sedatives. For killing Dewey in such a mean-spirited way the filmmakers would deserve to have an ice-pick rammed through their eye-sockets. - 2/10

But rewatching 4 and 5 convinced me that, while I don’t like 4 much at all, 5 is much worse.

I haven’t seen a single one, but I have been meaning to watch them all for a while now. I appreciate the rankings here! I’ll revisit them when I watch all 5 soon. You know there are aliens billions of years away that have watched at least one Scream movie right?

Spoilers, I guess….
Scream - 4/5 :the great film in the series. All time top shelf slasher. Most likely makes a Top Horrors of the 90s list.
Scream 2 - 3.5/5 :the only other good film in the series, and the last one to be above average. Top cut as far as slasher sequels go. Managed to somehow still be fully in on the joke. This series really did have a strong one-two punch.
Scream 3 - 2.5/5 :serviceable slasher sequel brings trilogy to mildly satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately, it’s really starting to feel stale by now and thoughts of “they shoulda quit while they were ahead” are abound. The movie was no longer in on the joke….it was becoming the joke - the thing the first film mocked. Who was the killer???
Scream 5 - 2/5 :just not satisfying on any level. Other than DA, the vets are painfully phoning it in. The new characters are just….no. Woodsboro is officially more tired than Crystal Lake or Haddonfield. Killers were zeros. Could not understand the positive response some had. People were happy with this?
Scream 4 - 2/5 :just bad. The film is now fully the joke. They resurrected the series for THIS?! It’s a shame this is how Craven went out. Not an ounce of freshness has returned during the long layoff. Toss up as to whether the new cast is worse in this or part 5. No me gusta. Killers annoying AF.

Scream -10/10 Scream 2 -7/10 Scream 2022 -7/10 Scream 4 -6/10 Scream 3 -4/10 6 was on track to being the best sequel of the series. Unfortunately, the last 20 minutes are a complete mess. Now it's hovering between 5 and 4 on this list. Maybe even below 4.

The first one is the best. One of the best horror films ever made.
Scream 2 is the only decent sequel. I stopped caring about Scream films after this.
