The fact that the director, jj abrams wanted to have a male as the lead character? Of course he didn't get his way.
And so then it is just like some modern remakes that we got like the remake of robocop or total recall. It is just like that in this way: If a director doesn't actually want to make the film, it can't possibly be good. A director has to want to make the film, in order for it to be good possibly.
There isn't any way possibly that jj abrams wanted to make that film, because fundamentally he thought having a male lead was the right choice.

Maybe hurts his commitment a little. But I think Abrams was still enthusiastic if for no other reason than TFA is largely a nostalgic rehash of A New Hope. And that’s what Abrams does best and loves to do: nostalgic rehash.

Abrams said he signed on to direct 7 after Kennedy asked him one question: "Who is Luke Skywalker?"
Little did he know that she was literally asking him...
