The version of "Star Wars" that introduced the film to a new generation as well as let older generations see the film on the big screen again. But it has become a "poster boy" for the good and bad for filmmakers going back to add/subtract things to their own work (Greedo shooting first instead of Han, new Jabba scene, enhanced visual effects). Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Star Wars (1977) - 3.5 out of 4 stars"Elaborate, imaginative update of Flash Gordon incredibly became one of the most popular films of all time. It's a hip homage to B-movie ethics and heroism in the space age, as a callow youth (Hamill) becomes an interplanetary hero with the help of some human and robot friends. R2-D2 and C-3P0 steal the show. Won seven Oscars for various technical achievements and John Williams' rousing score. Full title on-screen (on recent prints) is STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE. Followed by THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI. Special Edition released in 1997 features souped-up special effects and about 4m. of new footage. Panavision."

I love the look on this woman passing by. When Star Wars is done right, you get that look of excitement and wonderment from audiences. Special Edition issues aside, it did allow newer fans to see it in the theaters, which is a pretty cool thing. 25 years ago...feels like yesterday!

This is from the 2004 DVD edition. See below for the 1997 SE version: I forgot how terrible 1997 Jabba was. The 2004 version at least looks like the Episode 6 Jabba. Episode 1 Jabba, for that matter, looks loads better too than 1997 Jabba and we're only talking maybe 2 years difference.

I think they said that when they re-released the OT in 2004, they used the same model from Episode 1 in Episode 4.
